I'm not what you thought I was,
I'm no diamond in the sand.
If anything,
I'm the coal at the bottom.
Not below the diamond,
But in the rock bed.
I'm worth something,
I'm useful at times,
But I'm not what you want,
I'm not as pretty.
I won't be for a while,
You'll be far gone by then.
You won't remember,
That chunk of coal,
At the bottom.
You won't remember me,
You'll forget me,
Everyone always does.
I'm not memorable,
I never asked to be.
I don't want you to go,
I want you to stay around,
To see what I become,
But you won't.
If you do,
I have no words,
Nor do I have emotion,
To express how I feel.
Maybe one day,
I'll be just like you,
A gorgeous Sapphire. To my girlfriend Saphire, I'm sorry for not trusting you, I'm sorry for being so angry all the time. I'm sorry for not being what you thought I was. I have been silently waiting for you to hate me, but you've stuck with me all this time. Nobody else would. All I know is that despite the emotional abuse and my constant secrecy, and my own hypocrisy, you've stayed with me believing that the next day will be better.
