Joey's POV
We arrive at the airport and I try to stay positive, but I don't know how long it will last. I can see Sawyer is putting on a smiling mask, that's holding back a tear or two. We get the tickets and sit down, the flight's in an hour. I can remember the last time I was here, well I wish couldn't but I can. Me and Sawyer don't say anything really, I feel too emotional. As if when I started, I wouldn't be able to stop. So the silence remains. I hold his hand tightly, I think - when the time comes - I won't be able to let go. I would go with him, but that would cost a lot and he already spends a lot on his short films. Besides I think a little break will be good for us. I mean I won't 'play the field' or anything, but have a little relax time. Some me time. Yeah, besides if I get lonely I could do some colabs, with Shane, maybe. Okay, maybe this won't be so bad. Right? Right?! Good or bad, I have to be strong - for Sawyer's sake. I don't want him worrying about me, he should have some relax time in Italy. I look over at Sawyer and I can tell he's thinking things through as well. He looks so cute. Those sparkling blue eyes ... I'm really going to miss them. Who am I kidding? I'm really going to miss him. Great. Now I'm back to square one, feeling incredibly emotional. I start to tear up again, but I only release them when they announce his flight. Sawyer looks at me and hugs me rather tightly. Okay, now I can't breath.
"Choking, not breathing." I manage to say.
Sawyer instantly let's go of me. Oh air, how I have missed you.
"I'm so sorry." He's stressed, I can tell.
"It's okay, I get it. I really don't want to let go of your hand either." I look down at our hands, still intertwined.
"Well..." He says, scratching his neck.
"Well..." I respond, not quite sure what to say.
"Goodbye, I guess."
I shiver at the word 'goodbye'.
"Goodbye ... I guess."
And the crying begins, pouring.
"Oh, come here." He says, sympathetic.
He pulls me into him, hugging me a lot softer then last time. I cry into his shirt, but I can feel drops falling onto my shoulder. Another announcement comes on about Sawyer's flight and he pulls away from the hug.
"Now, Joey, I got you something. Something to remember me by." That's so sweet of him.
"What is it?"
He goes into his bag and takes out ... a ring?!
"Joey - "
"Oh my God, Sawyer! Yes!" I cut him off.
"What? Oh, no, it's not that kind of ring, but thank you for telling me your answer in the future," He winks, then chuckles. "No, it's a promise ring. Promising my faith to you and that things will be absolutely fine when I get back."
"Aww, Sawyer! I love it!"
He slips the ring onto my finger, it's beautiful. It's gold and engraved on the outside is 'Jawyer'.
"You like?" He asks.
"I love."
I kiss him right on the lips and it's magical. Even after we pull apart I stand in awe with my eyes still close. Little did I know, that when I opened my eyes...
He was gone.
