Shut out Love

Perhaps love resides behind a door

But it's certainly not open

It's manifested behind closed doors

Gossiping with friends about it

It grows like a garden encasing both sides of the door

And when it becomes noticeable and begins knocking

Begging to be acknowledged

The doors are locked and the blinds are closed

Everyone's so scared to let their real emotions shine through

What will happen?

Will they like me back?

More often than not the answer is yes

But we're all too afraid to open the door even a sliver

Too worried that what's knocking is hatred or even plain friendship instead of love

So we pull the blinds closed

Lock the doors tight

And turn off the lights

Love is an uninvited guest

That often ends up being turned away
