The red balloon

I saw a bright red balloon

Floating down the street

Carried by the wind

Its string flapping past children's feet

The balloon soared higher and higher

And I sighed, knowing what was ahead

The balloon didn't know it

But within moments it would be on its deathbed

Surely enough I saw

A bird pecking at a pole nearby

It pecked that little balloon

And I saw it slowly die

Surely enough, the elevation declined

The balloon floating down slowly

The bird seemed oblivious

Though I noticed its last breath end as it fell down lowly

Most would think I was crazy

But as a car ran over the balloon I shed a single tear

Maybe it meant nothing to you

But it was a metaphor for my greatest fear

We are all balloons

We float freely, so oblivious

Unknowing of what is to come

Unknowing that the world is so viscious

Suddenly something happens

Even just a change in the wind

Now we've been popped

By the evil world of those who have sinned

Our energy is diminished

Our mind starts to decline

The strangers around us care not

Too busy floating on their own cloud nine

Finally you're through

Your last breath about to be gasped

And you think of all the people who ran over you

The ones who've done evil in your past

Are they happy wherever they are?

Do they regret what they've said or are they fine?

What a sad last thought to ponder

Before you finally flat line
