"He's still a drunk, Addie.. he locks me in the basement sometimes when he's angry.."

"H-He.." I was shocked by this. I never know how much Michael struggled and all the pain he has had and still had in his life.

Michael, I had no idea of the amount of pain that was caused by your father. No idea..

*

A week has passed since Michael told me about his dad. I can't get it out of my mind. How could a father hurt his own child? And even his wife?

I haven't brought the topic back up since then. Michael is too sensitive about it for right now. I don't want to make him remember his pain again.

"Hey, babe." Michael spoke loudly as the loud footsteps grew closer and closer.

Michael entered the room and smiled as he saw me on my bed. I was lost in my own thoughts.

"What are you thinking about?" He asked quite confused.

He walked over to my bed and plopped down next to me, letting out a sigh as he worried about what was on my mind.

"Oh, I-It's nothing." I quickly brushed off his question in an attempt to avoid his questions.

Michael opened his mouth as if he were about to speak before hearing my phone ring, making him stop before the words left his mouth.

I quickly answered the phone call that I had gotten from Drew.

"Hello?"

"Addie, I need to talk to you. Is Michael there?" I glanced over at Michael who was sitting right beside me on my bed, mumbling over something.

"Um, yeah, he's here. What did you need to talk about?" I asked him but the other line quickly went silent.

"Drew?"

"Is there anyway that you could meet me at the coffee shop? I want to talk to you so maybe we could go to my house after buying some coffee." He suggested. His tone sounded like he was nervous, almost like he needed to say something that he couldn't do over the phone.

"Sure, I'll be there in 30." I quickly accepted his offer before we said our goodbyes over the phone.

I turned off my phone and stood up from my bed to go get my shoes on.

"Wait, where are you going?" Michael quickly jumped up from the bed and followed me towards my front door as I grabbed my shoes and slid them on my feet.

"I'm just going to go meet Drew. Don't worry, I'll be fine." I smiled as he gave me a look of disapproval and a slight hint of jealousy.

"How can I not worry when you're going to meet Drew? Can't I just go with you?"

"Not this time, okay? I'll be back before dark." I smiled as I put my hands on both of his cheeks and kissed him quickly before walking out the door.

*

I finally arrived at the coffee shop and decided to order a cup of coffee while I waited for Drew.

"Thank you." I said before grabbing my coffee and walking to an empty booth.

"Addie," Drew flashed a smile as he waved while waiting for his coffee.

He quickly grabbed his coffee and walk towards me in my booth and took a seat across from me.

"How are you?" I smiled at him before taking a sip of my coffee.

"Ow!" I winced and quickly pulled the coffee away from me which made me spill it a little bit.

"Are you okay?" Drew asked out of concern as he quickly got up to see if I was okay.

"Y-Yeah, it was just a lot hotter than I expected." I muttered before grabbing some napkins from off the table and cleaning up the spill I had made.

"Be more careful next time." He let out a soft chuckle as he looked at me with his eye smile.

"That was embarrassing. Everyone is staring at me." I let out a chuckle as I looked over at the other customers staring at me.

"Ah, trust me, thats nothing compared what happened to me once." He laughed.

I was enjoying my time with Drew. I haven't gotten to spend much time with him ever since Michael's accident. I'm really glad everything is back to the way it used to be.

*

"Okay, we're here." Drew let out a relieved sigh along with a smile as he unbuckled his seat belt.

"You really don't live far from the coffee shop, do you?" I laughed as I unbuckled my seat belt and happily stepped out of the car.

"Nope." He spoke before leading me towards his front door.

"Are your parents home?" I questioned as he fumbled for his keys to unlock the front door. His house wasn't terribly big but it wasn't small either. It seemed cozy inside.

"No, they won't be for another hour or two." He glanced over at me before unlocking the door and letting me inside.

"Come on," he grabbed my hand and led me towards his room.

"Can you close the door?"

I nodded my head and got up to close the door. After I closed the door I walked over to Drew and sat down on his bed.

"So.. what did you want to tell me? You didn't want Michael to hear you so it must be something important." I raised my eyebrows as I watched him fidget around at my question.

"Well," he started but he turned his gaze to his hands and mumbled something under his breath that I could barely hear. He looked nervous and I didn't want to push him so I waited.

"I just wanted to tell you.. how I feel about you."

"Addie, I've had feelings for you ever since we met."

My eyes widened at the sudden confession. My mind couldn't comprehend what he had just said. So many things were going through my mind at once. It was like my mind was racing yet it was so blank. I was in complete and utter shock

How did I never notice how he felt?
