Merry Christmas Everyone

CHAPTER  THIRTEEN

Gray watched Natsu lean back on his pillows, his hair shadowing his face. The room was growing dark, the silence becoming suffocating. Something changed in his friend and he knew it had to do with the attack. Gray looked at the floor as he revisited the events that had taken place, he couldn't protect his best friend. What if Lucy never showed up?

"It's not your fault idiot." A voice spoke up, Gray looked up at Natsu, the pink haired boy winced as he tried to sit up straight. Blood was slowly coming out again and Gray turned around to call a nurse, but Natsu grabbed his wrist. "It's not your fault ok?" He spoke up again.

"You could've died asshole. I should be in that bed not you." Gray answered, for once he felt like he was a kid. The unknown wall was slowly coming in between the two friends, surrounded by emotions he hadn't felt since he was a kid. Regret and fear. Natsu simply chuckled lightly but held his wound. It was then that Gray called for a nurse, the short lady ran in with a taller man.

He walked out of the room and leaned on the wall. The hallway was empty besides the flickering lamp on his left, he covered his face not trying to have another anxiety attack. He was prone to those little devils when he was younger, then again he was prone to a lot of things when he was younger.

"Hey, dad look!" A smaller Gray grinned holding up a picture that he had drawn, it was a single raindrop surrounded by little dots. Silver Fullbuster took one glance and put the phone back to his ear walking out of his office followed by Gray.

"That's nice Gray, go with your mom now." Silver yelled through the hall, his wife came out of another room with a smaller boy holding her shirt. "I have to meet with Igneel." With that he left the house, little did Gray know that would be the last time he would ever see his father alive.

One single shot through his head and Silver would take his last breath jumping in front of Igneel and taking the bullet. The two had been friends since birth, Silver had vowed to protect Igneel no matter what.

Ur was with her two kids in the living room, she had noticed her husband had been at the meeting longer than usual. She knew he was affiliated with the Dragon Gang, but she didn't know by meeting he meant patrolling with Igneel. She called his phone, but no answer. Little did Ur know that it would be the last time she would hear her husband's voice.

A loud crash caught her attention and she quickly grabbed her two children. She looked at Gray and knelt down to meet his eye, a small reassuring smile on her lips. It would be the last time he would see his mother.

"Honey go take Lyon to the special room ok. I'll meet you there." Another crash, at the time Gray didn't realize how tight her hold was on him or how scared she looked. He simply grabbed his little brother's hand and led him downstairs. He remembered how his heart was beating or how his little brother was crying loudly, a loud shot rang in his ears. He still heard how loud it was. His brother sprang out of his arms and ran towards the door, his little hands wrapping around the door. It opened, Lyon ran out of the room with Gray screaming for him to get back. He then saw a man in front of his mother, a red liquid had stained his mother's favorite white rug. The larger man turned around and grinned as he held a gun to Lyon. The screaming and crying stopped after a single shot, Gray was frozen.

"Mom? Mom!" He yelled and tears had fallen down his cheeks. He ran towards her and a shot rang out once more, the dogs barking in the neighborhood silenced and someone picked him up from the floor.

Igneel had shot the man, while back at the Dragneel Manor, several men broke in. Someone had pointed a gun at Grandeeney yet they were shot down before a bullet had come out. Zeref, 8 at the time, had killed the man. Natsu was right beside his brother at the time gripping his shirt in fear as the watched their mother cry on the floor.

After that, Igneel took Gray in. Zeref had grown apart from Natsu and his family. Gray had panic attacks, hallucinations of his dead family and had terrible nightmares. One day he was at school, someone called out Lyon's name during role call and Gray ran out ignoring the teacher. Everything around him had blurred. He had been on his knees when one voice stood out from the others.

"Ice Princess!" A loud boisterous voice standing out from the rest. Everything slowed down, two hands grabbed his shoulders and he was brought into a hug. "It's not your fault." He had never been told those four words, his aunts had blamed him for not protecting his little brother.

"I shou- I should have di - died instead of Lyon." He cried out. He never knew that Natsu had stood by the doorway when Igneel was in Gray's room calming down the younger boy. Natsu heard everything and saw everything.

"No. It's not your fault, you listened to your mom, it was Lyon who ran out. I don't know what I'd do if I lost my best friend." Those words left him frozen. He looked at Natsu to see him grinning.

---

Someone touched his shoulder and drove Gray out of his thoughts. He looked up to see Natsu looking down at him, Gray immediately stood up.

"Idiot, are you even suppose to be up-" Natsu quickly brought him into a tight hug.

"It's not your fault and I don't know what I'd do if I were to lose my brother." Natsu spoke up breaking the small silence. Gray broke the hug to see Natsu grinning at him, Gray simply smiled softly. This idiot is going to be the death of him one of these days.

Igneel walked to the car in front of the hospital, Erza was standing in front of it with a taller boy, his dark hair swept back. Once he saw Igneel, he took off his shades. He walked towards his father and simply nodded at him. The air grew light around them as the boy grinned at Igneel as he fixed his dark suit.

"It's been a while, how's the little dragon doing?" He asked.

"He's doing well right now, now Zeref, are you ready to join?"

"It'll be a pleasure father."

Jude rubbed his eyes as he swirled his wine around as he turned around to face the door. His eyes flickered to a photo of Layle Heartfillia on his desk, beside it was a photo of a smiling Lucy Heartffillia and her brother Luke. He never wanted to put his daughter in danger again yet he knew there was a mole among the members.

The door opened and Loke walked in nodding at Jude with a grave look.

Lucy walked into the room wearing a dark suit and dark shades, her hair pulled up. She pulled off her glasses and smiled at her father.

"Don't worry the mole will come out soon."
