CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Loke looked back at the photo hanging on the wall in his room, Karen had dropped him off after the meeting. The photo was from when his fiance was alive, she had only been 25 when she had gotten killed in front of his eyes. The only reason he was betraying his boss was to avenge her death, he knew it would hurt Lucy if she were to find out that he was the mole. The photo revealed a pink-haired young woman, her smile bright and right beside her was a younger Lucy and Luke. Lucy had only been 10 and Luke was 9, it was a year before the accident. Where men broke into the house, his fiance had opened the door.
Loke looked away and sat on his bed in the apartment. His head in his hands, the only source of light was the lamp that was lit up.
"Lucy this is Loke, he'll be your guard." Jude Heartfillia introduced him to the small blonde haired girl, her hair was pulled into two pigtails. She held out a small hand to a 19 years old Loke. He took it gently smiling down at her.
"It'd be an honor to serve a princess." He spoke up getting on a knee. Lucy simply grinned at him, she turned around to look at her mom. Layla Heartfillia was laughing lightly at her daughter, while Luke remained asleep in her arms.
A small tear slipped out and Loke shook his head, he felt guilty. How could he betray his master, how could he betray Lucy? The one person who helped him recover from his depression after his fiance got killed. The one person who would never leave his side.
He had gotten out of the car, the police surrounding the house. He held up his badge and walked into the house, three bodies were covered in the living room. An officer talking to Lucy, once she saw him she quickly ran towards him. He knelt down bringing her into a tight hug, Jude came inside the house with two officers.
"They-their dead Loke. I couldn't do nothing, I'm pathetic." She cried into his shoulder, Loke noticed a hand sticking out of the bag, a ring gleaming in the light. He hugged Lucy closer, his heart hurt but he had to be strong for Lucy.
"It's not your fault Lucy, you have to live on for them." He whispered in her ear as she cried into his shoulder. That night, Loke cried his heart out. The empty space beside him haunting him everytime he would lay on the bed. Jude changed that day too, he would never be the same after his wife's death, he couldn't even bring himself to attend his son's funeral.
"The parent isn't suppose to outlive the child, it should never be the other way around." Jude had said as Loke informed him about the funeral. He could have sworn he saw a tear slip out of his boss's eye as he turned around. A knock interrupted his thoughts, he walked to the door and opened it. Lucy stood there, her eyes distant and her hand gripping her bag.
"Dad got hurt." She whispered.
---
Natsu had just returned home from the hospital, his father talked the doctor into letting him get discharged. He sat down in the living room, Gray beside him talking to Wendy. Igneel had left to his office, the mansion was silent. Members of their gang had gone on patrol or were in the training area in the back.
"Gray, do you like Juvia?" Wendy asked with a sly smile. For a small girl, she was very smart. Natsu held back a laugh and looked at Gray's red face. He stuttered telling her to mind her own business, which made Wendy frown at him.'
"Tell her the truth Gray." Natus spoke up, winking at his friend who merely smacked his head causing Natsu to hold his throbbing head. "Wounded person here!" He whined, Gray cleared his throat and smirked at him.
"How I asked her out after you got knocked out by Lucy?" He asked. Wendy gasped covering her mouth. A disapproving look on her face, she smacked Natsu's head.Natsu held his head again tighter.
"Do you guys not understand that I am wounded?" He asked. Gray broke out into laughter holding his stomach. Wendy shook her head and held Natsu by his ear ignoring her brother's cries of being a wounded person.
"I thought mom taught you better than that." She lectured. All of a sudden a loud sound cut through the happy moment, a gunshot echoed causing dogs to bark and cars to go off. Natsu got up shoving Wendy behind him, Gray taking out his pistol from his holster. He ran through the door as more members ran outside. Igneel came downstairs looking at Natsu.
"Take Wendy to her room and get Crawford on the phone, he is leading the patrol. Get him to the scene immediately." With that, he was out the door.
---
Gray ran towards the source to see a car that had crashed into the pole in the corner, he ran to the car and opened the door of the car. He immediately noticed a bullet hold on the glass, Jude Heartfillia was slumped in the seat. His driver dead, blood splattered on the seats.
"Oh what a scene." A voice spoke up, Gray stepped out of the car to see Crawford and two other men with him, his gun was missing. "Who is the poor soul who got shot?" He asked.
"The real question is what are you doing here when you are supposed to be several minutes away on patrol and where is your gun, Crawford?" Gray asked, at the moment he noticed Igneel running over to the scene, followed by three men.
"Who is it?" He asked walking towards them. He turned to see Crawford and was about to say something but kept his mouth shut focusing his attention on the car.
"It's Mr. Heartfillia sir." Gray spoke up putting his hands behind his back. Sirens were heard from a distance and Igneel looked at Gray.
"Contact Mrs. Heartfillia immediately, Crawford continue your patrol." With that, he went to check on Jude. Gray took out his phone and dialed the number, but not before looking at Crawford's disappearing figure. That old man was up to something.
