Emilia's phone alarm went off at six the next morning. Her, Rosie and Annie changed into sweatpants and ate breakfast quickly before meeting up with the rest of the tour group to go to the airport together.

"So, how was your date with Leon?" Annie pried, wanting to know all about her cousin's date with the hot footballer.

"First off, it wasn't a date," Emilia retorted, not wanting her family to mistake her and Leon's friendship as something else.

"Emi," Rosie interjected. "He literally took you to Allianz Arena, the one place you've always wanted to visit, and you got to meet your second favorite soccer player, Joshua Kimmich; I'm pretty sure that means he likes you more than just a friend."

"It doesn't matter anyways," Emilia stood up. "I might not ever see him again because you know, we live an ocean apart."

She stormed off, not knowing what had overtaken her. Emilia wasn't one to act out; she was always the sensible one, and once she gathered her family's luggage, she hustled back to their table, apologizing to them.

"I'm sorry, I just don't know what's going to happen between Leon and I, and I like him alright? And this whole thing has just felt like a dream, and I'm afraid that when we get home, I'm going to wake up and it'll be like none of it happened," Emilia blurted, taking a seat at the table again.

"It's okay, Emi," Annie patted her hand lightly. "If it's meant to be, it will be."

Emilia laid her head on her cousin's shoulder until Charlotte hollered, "Group, it's time to go! You have a flight to catch in two hours!"

An hour and a half later, the entire tour group was through customs and patiently waiting for their flight. Emilia took her phone out of her pocket, opening up the Instagram app. It was then that she realized she had a direct message from Leon and smiled widely.

leon_goretzka: are you on your flight yet?

emiliaschneider: nope, not yet.

Emilia shook her head, knowing that the conversation wasn't going to go anywhere with short, boring answers like hers.

leon_goretzka: i wanted to let you know that i had a really fun time with you these last couple of days :) wish you could've stayed longer

emiliaschneider: me too. and i would never tell our tour guide Charlotte this because i adore her, but i think you showed Munich to me much better than she did :)

leon_goretzka: and i'm not even from here! you need to come to bochum sometime! that'll be the best tour of your life...i'll make it worthwhile :)

emiliaschneider: we'll see...you do remember that i'm a teacher in the u.s. though, so i can't just take off whenever i like? i'm too busy shaping the minds of the future!!

leon_goretzka: wow, way to make me and my job of playing football feel insignificant :P

Emilia giggle to herself, which prompted her sister to turn to her. "What's so funny, Em?"

She held her phone close to her, not wanting to tell Rosie about Leon messaging her. "Just a dank meme I found on Instagram."

"Ooh can I see?" She questioned, leaning over Emilia's chair.

"It's a soccer meme," Emilia lied, knowing her sister hated when she talked about her second-favorite sport.

"Nevermind then," Rose sat back down.

Just then, Emilia's group's flight was called. She hastily clicked on her Instagram messages, not wanting to get on the flight without saying goodbye to Leon.

emiliaschneider: goretzka, you bring joy to like millions of people each week by playing football, myself included. i'm pretty sure that means you're a big deal too :) i gotta go though, they just called my flight.

She sent the message, anxiously waiting for Leon's message. Her tour group then boarded their flight. Rosie, Annie and Emilia were somehow all seated next to one another, which they enjoyed immensely.

Finally, after Rosie and Emilia had called their parents letting them know that their flight was about to take off, Emilia received a message from Leon.

leon_goretzka: have a safe trip!! i know i said this last night, but please let me know when you make it home :)

Emilia's heart fluttered, taking her mind off her flying anxiety momentarily. Her phone vibrated again:

leon_goretzka: i think we'll be seeing each other sooner than later. until then though, i'll just have to keep seeing that pretty face of yours through my phone screen :) talk to you soon, Emi xx

Emilia turned her phone off, tucking it into the jacket she was wearing; the Schalke jacket of Leon's. Neither Annie or Rosie had said anything about it, although she did see the two of them give each other 'a look' when Emilia pulled it out of her suitcase before they boarded their flight.

Once they were in the air, the three girls all played 'How to Be Single' at the same time on the screens in front of them. Emilia didn't find the movie to be very good though, so she closed her eyes, replaying her European vacation in her head. She couldn't believe how wonderful it was, and couldn't wait to make even more memories with her two best friends sitting alongside of her.

a/n: did anyone see that today a report came out saying that liverpool is close to signing a pre-contract with leon? i know he said that nothing is decided yet, but that would be cool! tbh i'm not like a huge premier league fan, but liverpool is probably my favorite pl team so i wouldn't mind seeing leon go there!

the only better situation is if he'd go to bayern to be with joshua or go to barcelona because i've read that barca is scouting both leon and max and i'm not ready to see the two of them get separated 😭. i love them together so much 💓
