I gasped. It wasn't me. It couldn't possibly have been me. Could it have? I found myself walking towards the stage, kind of pushed by the people.
"Congratulations!" The boy next to me on the stage patted my back with a lopsided smile.
"Excuse me?" I laughed in horror. "This is not something to be happy about. I am only fifteen! Now, I am basically just a child soldier."
He shrugged, indifferent. "I meant congratulations that you get to be here with me." He winked. He was adorable in a weird way.
But, it didn't mean anything. "I would rather die a slow death than spend one more second with you."
"You don't mean that." The boy frowned, obviously hurt by my words.
I laughed at his misery. "Maybe I do, maybe I don't."
"Hey, Emily. We're in this together. Don't give up on me. We can be friends. We can survive. Together." He smiled, again.
How did he know my name? Oh wait, my name was just called out. Everyone knows my name. "I'm sorry, but I don't recall your name."
"Lucas." He held out his hand. "It is a pleasure to meet you."
"Whatever." I scoffed.
"Would you care to make a deal?" He asked me, curiousity swimming in his eyes.
I laughed. "What is the deal?"
"If I win rock, paper, scissors, we get to be friends. If I lose, you can bully me and harras me all you want. Even kill me, I guess." Lucas looked at me, an eyebrow raised. "What do you say? Deal or no deal."
"Deal." I held out my palm. Hand ready.
He smiled and got in position. "Rock, paper, scissor, shoot!"
Lucas held scissors while I held a rock. "Gotcha!"
"Out of three! Out of three!" He demanded.
I frowned. "Fine." I growled at him throwing in a glare.
"Rock, paper, scissors, shoot!" He repeated.
This time, I played paper and he did scissors again. "Ugh. For the tie breaker..." I glared.
"Rock, paper, scissors, shoot!" He yelled.
Lucas played down a rock.
I played scissors.
"I won, I won, I won!" Lucas yelled, spinning in circles. "So, loser, aren't you glad to be friends with such a champion?"
