Jin ran as fast as his feet could carry him. He was driven by fear and adrenaline. He couldn't fathom what would happen if he was too late. Every second counted, every second made sure that Yoongi and Mr Dae wouldn't get any further with their plan. Jin had heard all of it. He knew they were headed towards the merlin circles. He knew the spell they would conjure and he knew the devastation it would bring. It only made his feet move faster.
He could hardly get the words out of his throat when he finally saw his friends at the end of the hallway. His voice came out raspy and in between pants. "Yoongi. He's headed towards the merlin circles." Jin spoke holding his stinging side.
Hoseok shot up from where he was sitting, immediately making his way towards the door. With an exhausted hand Jin held him back. "Mr Dae is with him." He added.
Hoseok's eyes widened. Every puzzle piece he failed to connect suddenly fell into place. He finally saw who had given Yoongi the book, who had encouraged him to use dark magic, it all made sense now. Nobody would suspect a thing. After all, Mr Dae was just a helpful teacher. He was nobody to be suspected of using dark magic. If anything he would be the person discouraging Yoongi from using it. Nobody ever even looked in his direction. Now nobody could estimate the damage he could do.
"Where's Namjoon?" Taehyung asked noticing the elder male's absence. Jin's expression turned into one of fear.
"They attacked us. Namjoon told me to run and warn you." Jin said. His eyes started to water. Hoseok wasn't sure whether it was from the fear running through his body or his care for Namjoon.
"Listen, warn the teachers, we need their help." Hoseok said putting his hands on Jin's shoulders. "after that, go look for Namjoon."
Jin nodded taking a deep breath in. Jimin opened his mouth to say something, but before he was able to get the words out a loud crash rang through the building. It was almost as if an earthquake hit them. The low rumble going through the hallways caused dust to fall down and students to scream.
"What is going on?" Jungkook shouted above all the chaos. "I've never heard of a spell that can conjure earthquakes."
"He's opening up a portal to the other world. He's making an army of the dead." Jin explained in a soft yet scared voice. "I heard them talking about it."
Hoseok swallowed. Yoongi had asked him many times to use it, to help him. He wanted to bring back someone special to him, but now the spell might have a darker purpose. He no longer had any intention of using it to bring back one person, he would bring back an entire army. Thousands of corpses following his commands, protecting him, it was a frightful foresight. They had to stop it from coming true.
"We need to move, now." Hoseok said with urgency in his voice. He ran as fast as he could through the shaking hallways, constantly seeking balance. The others followed him without thinking twice. Jin moved the other way, seeking the closest teachers.
Their expressions were fear-ridden. They were never taught anything about dark magic, let alone how to protect yourself from it. None of them were prepared for what laid behind the door they were approaching. One by one they turned the corner, entering the classroom.
Green fire was spurting from the symbols etched into the floor. The temperature was high, the dark energy even higher. It made Hoseok feel nauseous the moment he set foot in the room. The floor moved even rougher in there, small pieces of the ceiling fell down every few seconds and cracks appeared on the marble walls. Yoongi stood on one side of the circle, Mr Dae on the other. Their eyes were closed in concentration, yet Yoongi opened as soon as Hoseok walked closer.
"Leave, it's too late for you." Yoongi said staring at Hoseok with dark eyes. As he spoke more flashes started to appear in between the two dark sorcerers, slowly taking form.
"Do as he says." Mr Dae added with a grin. He knew he had accomplished exactly what he wanted. Not even Yoongi's closest friends could talk him out of this now.
"It's not too late to turn back, Yoongi. You can still stop this all and surrender." Hoseok said looking his roommate in the eye.
There was a sadness in his voice. He didn't want to fight his friend and lover. After the conversation with his mother, he now finally understood her words. Seeing Yoongi like this, with his eyes pitch black and his expression even darker, it made him feel as if he had lost already. He felt as if he had lost him already, and he didn't want to push him any further away.
Yoongi just broke their intertwined gaze as easy as he broke Hoseok's heart and focused on the spell again. More lights started to appear, some now taking shape. They grew arms, legs and heads. His army was ready to step through the portal.
"Stop them! Break the spell!" Jimin yelled with fear lacing his voice.
Jungkook responded immediately starting to form a ball of fire in between his palms. It grew larger and larger until the outer flames almost hit his skin. That's when he threw it at the corners in the middle. Before it could hit any of them however, Yoongi opened his eyes and reflected it by the sheer power of his magic. He didn't even need to raise his hands or focus his energy.
The ball of flames flew back towards Jungkook. He didn't have time to dodge, all he could do was turn his body and limit the damage. The young sorcerer cried out as the fire hit his shoulder, burning the skin with ease. The sheer impact of it already hurt him enough to drop to his knees in pain. He let out a curse and a whimper, his hand immediately shooting up to where the flames had hit him.
Taehyung sped towards him, holding Jungkook's shoulder with care. Jimin followed only a second after. Hoseok just stood there dumbfounded. Using multiple spells at once was a gift that had taken him months to learn even for the easiest spells, yet here Yoongi was, using it as if it was as easy as opening his eyes. If that was the amount of power Yoongi possessed, then what could they do to stop him?
Shadows started to appear from in between the two sorcerers. The crawled out of the floor, flew up towards the ceiling and walls and disappeared with ease. Hoseok could only imagine the havoc they were wreaking outside of this room. He couldn't let this be the end. There had to be something they could do.
As Hoseok was pondering he hadn't noticed Jimin standing up from where he was kneeling next to his brother and friend. The younger sorcerer started to run.
"Jimin! No!" Jungkook cried out trying to stand up and stop him. Taehyung only held him back. The younger tried to get out of his boyfriend's grip with all his might but there was no way Taehyung was letting him go. He screamed and thrashed but nothing could free him. He could only watch as his brother got closer and closer towards his doom.
The two dark sorcerers shot every spell they had at him. Fire, ice, earth, none of it could stop the younger as he jumped. The moment Jimin surpassed the outer line of the merlin circle, he bent his body in pain. An ear-piercing scream rang through the room as he landed right in front of Yoongi's feet. His hands were clenched into fists, his nails buried in his flesh, tears streaming down his face. He was shaking as all the power in his body was sucked out of him. He fell even further towards the floor, not having enough power to stay seated on his knees. His head hit the cold floor. His tears and blood mixed with the fire beneath him. He couldn't take more.
Mr Dae quickly followed, falling to his knees with a scream. Yoongi had his eyes clenched shut and his teeth gritted together in pain. He didn't have enough power to keep the spell under control by himself. The lights started to get out of control, the shapes were phasing in and out of existence. Sounds and vision got mixed as the spell got more and more out of hand. Not even Yoongi could stop it anymore.
With one bright flash and a loud bang, everything stopped.
Happy new year y'all! Not sure this is the happiest chapter to celebrate the new year with but it's something. Hope this year will hold a lot of luck and prosperity for you guys.
I kind of succeeded with my new year's resolutions at the first day already. My wishes were to participate in contests more and focus more on my writing and to just generally accomplish more on this platform. And then the first half hour into the new year I got the results from a contest I entered and from the three categories in which I participated I won first place twice and second place once. I'm not okay. Proud and hyped, yes, but still an emotional wreck.
