Chapter 27

Recap:

"Yeah, that was the past."

"And your past has tried to relive itself."

"Emily stop I won't let it happen."

"That's what you said before."

"Well, I promise this time."

"Yeah sure, you do," Emily said with pure sarcasm.

We walked into the band room as silence fell me and Emily looked at each other weirdly but continued to walk out the doors for lunch.

    We left and went to Mcdonalds for a while. We walked in and ordered our usual. I got a sweet tea like always I got scolded for not actually getting food but at this point, it didn't phase me anymore. Emily got her usual Twenty nuggets, sweet tea and a large fry. I paid for our food and we went to sit at a table.

"I wanna create something that can force feed you."

"Really?"

"Yes, you need to eat."

"Emily I'm fine I'm not dying."

"How long has it been since you ate last?"

"Emily it doesn't matter."

"Well if it doesn't matter then why don't you tell me."

"Emily this is irrelevant."

"No it's not we are here for food and you didn't get any so that's why we are talking about your eating habits."

    I just sat there and rolled my eyes. Emily stared at me with the look of a crazy lady as she waited for an answer. We waited for about fifteen minutes and her food finally came.

"So are you gonna tell me."

"Will you leave me alone if I tell you?"

"Duh." 

    Knowing that was a lie I still was gonna test it.

"About two weeks."

 Her face dropped but she didn't say a word until we left.

"Why?"

"Why what?"

"Why haven't you been eating?"

"I haven't had the time."

"Liar."

"We went out to eat a few days ago and you didn't eat."

"I wasn't hungry."

"Am I gonna have to sit on you for now on to get you to eat?"

"No, because like I said ill be fine."

"You lie."

" I'm still alive aren't I?"

"Just barely."

"But still alive."

"Whatever."

   We left Mcdonalds and headed back to the school on the way there obviously listening to music from last years show. We got to the school in no time. We walked into the school and started playing ultimate rock, paper, scissors. Long story but its a more painful version. We play that for a good while and we draw a big crowd of people to play which gets confusing but is fun none the less. As Mr.B walked out of his office the room fell silent as everyone walked back to where they were supposed to be. Mr.B took role and he sent us to put our uniforms on the truck. As we walked away from giving them to the band parents he had us get in line to get on the buses. today was competition day so we were gonna travel a little bit.

        Of course, me and Emily say together and Felicia and the other Emily sat in the back.We read some jokes. A few racist ones and obviously blonde ones. We drove for about three hours and we finally made it to our destination. We all were pumped and wanted to preform already. We all got off and walked around and wasted our money on pins and other useless things that we soon would forget about. We had about an hour of free time until we finally had to practice. We all got out our drums and started warm-ups. Mifflin County became a threat after last years show. As other drum lines passed they stopped and watched in terror. We were clean and spot on but that wasn't good for the snares they kept speeding up the tempo and we stayed with them until we all completely got lost. Andy had us start running the show and every time we messed up he had us stop and he made us fix it. We practiced for about an hour, and just like that, it was time to perform.

       We all tapped on our harnesses as we got ready to go on the field. We were given the go and we went to the ready and just like that, we were walking on the field. We all went to our spots and just like that we were off. We started the beginning of the show with a loud band from the drums which no matter how many times the crowd had heard it they all still jumped. It accelerated quickly. Adding mallets they bass line and then the woodwinds. It was insanely fast and yet it was comfortable. As the first song ended the second one started as the second song starts all the drums kneel on the side line and then stand up quickly and we crab through the rest of the band to get to the back of the field. It's like nothing ever happened at that last football game. We were back if anything we came back stronger. 

      The second song ended and then came the third where the drums stand tall and the guard stands around us. We stand tall looking up into the crowd. The only difference with this performance is looking up into the crowd was seeing that face that i hoped to never see again Natalie was standing up by the press box staring down at us. I could feel the eyes of the adults and the other drummers on me as i looked up at her. It was like they were waiting to see if I would choke or not. I kept my head high and finished the show without anther look up. As we finished the show like we started with a big bang. I snuck a peek in the stands and just like that she was gone. We walked off the field and went to the warm-up place where like expected she was waiting. Everyone stopped in their tracks and I kept walking like it didn't matter to me. I looked her in the eyes but didn't say anything to her.

"Oh, what you're not gonna say hi to your favorite person?"

"Hi, Natalie why are you here?"

"To support my favorite band of course."

"You mean the band you tried to ruin."

"Same thing."

    Andy and Sam soon arrived as I and Natalie were talking.

"Natalie." Andy interjected, "There is security nearby to escort you away."

"Oh, I was just getting ready to leave." She replied snarkily

"Natalie." I looked straight into her eyes." When Monday comes the first thing I'm doing is going to the office I'm tired of being scared of you."

"You won't if you know whats good for you."

"I don't care anymore."

     And with that, i looked over at Andy and Sam and they had the security come and escort Natalie of the grounds. I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding in. With that, we all finished getting ready to go to the stands fr awards. I met up with both Emily's and Felicia and we walked over to the stands. I was scared, shaking even I knew she could do some damage. But for today I wouldn't let it bother me.
