Assume (Solby)

Chapter 7

(Sam POV)

I woke up and looked around. It was quiet around the house. It was probably early.

I grabbed my phone and turned it on. Oh yeah, it was 6 am. That's pretty damn early. At least around here. I looked back to my phone to see a text. One that made me smile.

Colby: Hey! I know it's early but do you want to hang out today? Talk some more

Sam: Yeah! Do you want to come over here?

Colby: Sure, and sorry if my text woke you up.

Oh, that's why I woke up.

Sam: It's no big deal

Colby: See you maybe in an hour or two?

Sam: Yep.

I smiled. Today is going to be good. I hope.

I am really really happy me and Colby are friends again. Yesterday when I first saw him, I admit I was going to freak out. Not in a bad way though, in a "Oh my god I haven't seen you in so long and I am bursting with happiness" type way. Being away from your best friend for so long like that can be horrible. I mean, he isn't exactly my best friend anymore, maybe a close one? At least he is a friend.

I am also glad we avoided the subject of why we were apart so long. If we had talking about it right then and there, I think it wouldn't have gone well. Oh, wait, we still have to talk about that. I.. I don't want to talk about that. It was a mistake and I admit it was my fault but it was also party his. Nope, not thinking about this right now. I have to get ready.

I got dressed and walked down stairs to eat something. Turns out Corey was also up.

"Hey Sam." Corey said sitting in the game room.

"Hey, so why you up so early?" I asked grabbing cereal. 

"Just an early morning I guess. Why are you up so early?" He asked back.

"Phone woke me up." I said walking over and sitting on the other end of the couch with my food.

"Oh, nice. Wanna play some rocket league?" He asked.

"Sure." I said.

So we played some rocket league for awhile.

"I totally won that!" Corey yelled as me and Aaron laughed.

"Doesn't look like that." I said laughing.

We were all interrupted by a knock on the front door.

"I got it." Aaron said standing up.

I nodded and went on my phone. Then I saw a text from about 5 minutes ago.

Colby: Almost here

COLBY IS AT THE DOOR AND AARON AND COREY DON'T KNOW WE ARE FRIENDS AGAIN.

I shot up and ran over to the door.

Aaron opened it before I got there.

"Colby?" He asked.

"Hey Aaron, oh Sam!" Colby said waving and smiling.

Aaron had the most confused look on his face. I almost laughed.

"But- I thought- I- What?" He asked.

"I got it." I said.

Aaron moved over and let Colby in.

"Do they not know?" Colby asked.

"Well, I may have forgot to say something." I said laughing nervously.

"I didn't tell Brennen either don't worry." Colby said laughing. I love his laugh. Oops that's a bit creepy. 

We looked over to Aaron who looked like he was going to pass out.

"Oh, me and Colby are friends again." I said.

"Well, I can see that now." He said.

"Me and Corey are playing rocket league if you wanna come watch." I said.

"Sure, I haven't really seen or played rocket league in awhile." Colby said.

We walked over to the game room where Corey was.

"Hey Corey." Colby said. He was holding back a laugh, I could see it.

"Hey Colby- oh shit." Corey said. He looked between me and Colby. Okay the way this was going was amazing. "You, uh, I am confused." He said.

"Me and Colby are cool, I invited him over." I said.

Corey sighed in relief, "Thank god. Now can we please get back to the game, and later you two are explaining." 

"Sure." I said sitting down.

"Oh, can I play?" Colby asked sitting next to me.

"Yeah, here." I handed him the controller. 

"Thanks." He said. "I might suck, I haven't played in like a year."

We laughed.

About two hours later we found ourselves out back.

"Dare you to jump into the pool fully clothed." Colby said to Corey.

"Hell no!" Corey said. "I dare you!"

Colby shrugged, "Okay." He said taking his phone out of his pocket.

"Wait, seriously?" I asked.

"Hey, take chances brother." He said with a stupid grin.

I nodded and smiled. "Hold my phone Aaron." I said giving Aaron my phone.

Me and Colby ran over to the other end of the pool.

"You guys can't be serious." Corey said.

"We are very serious Corey!" Colby yelled back.

We both giggled like idiots.

"Ready?" I asked.

"Yep." He said.

Corey and Aaron began to count down "Three! Two!"

Suddenly I felt Colby grab my hand. I looked down in surprise then back up to Colby. He just smiled.

"One!"

And we jumped in.

I know, 'wow you guys jumped in a pool fully clothed, so what?' But it was amazing. Me and Colby holding hands, happiness radiating off of us, smiling, giggling like idiots. It just felt so right. This is the thing I've missed the most about Colby, he always manages to make me happy and feel alive. Right now in this moment, I am alive. I am happy. 

I just realized I made a big deal about us holding hands. It's nothing, just us being best friends. Yeah. That's it. That's all we are. That's all we feel about each other. Best friends.

"That was refreshing!" Colby yelled.

I laughed. 

He always makes me laugh.
