Chapter 14

(Colby POV)

I woke up to Sam basically shoving me off his bed. He had a small smile, but he looked excited. He was defiantly feeling better then he did yesterday and that made me happy.

"Colby, it's 5 am, get up! Elton's gonna be here in an hour." He said.

"Uuuggghh." I said sitting up. "Why so early?" I asked.

"It's a long trip." He said shrugging.

I nodded. "I can tell your excited." I said laughing a bit.

"We haven't been on a trip in so long. It's gonna be awesome!" He fell onto me on the bed.

"Ow!" I said laughing. We both laughed.

Finally we both started getting ready. I grabbed my bags and hauled them downstairs with Sam.

I stood outside waiting for Sam to grab his last bag. I have to admit, the early morning was always nice. Peaceful. Probably one of my favorite times of day. I'm just never up at this time.

Sam walked out and closed the door behind him. He told me that he got his last bag, but also locked his door. I laughed slightly.

About 5 mins later Elton pulled up. Heath got out first.

"Hey guys. It's nice to see you two together." Heath said.

"Nice to see you two." Sam said. I nooded as in agreeing.

Elton walked up with his camera. I think the realization hit us both as we turned to look at each other with a look of  "shit." We agreed on going on a trip with Elton, together. Which meant, we agreed to be filmed on a trip, together. And we still haven't announced we were friends again. We haven't even talked about starting up the Sam and Colby channel yet! I think Elton realized our little panic because he sighed.

"You haven't said anything about being friends again. Have you?" He asked.

Uncle Elton always knew. "Maybe.." I said.

"Well, before I start uploading these videos, you better do it." He said.

We both nodded and laughed nervously. "We probably will." Sam said.

"Cool. Anyway-" Elton said, he turned his camera on, "Hello boys! Ready for a trip?" He asked.

"Hell yeah!" I said.

"You bet." Sam said.

"Awesome! Let's load up and get on the road to Gualala!"

About two maybe three hours into the trip Sam had fallen back asleep next to me, his head resting on my shoulder. Heath was nodding out in the front seat, they probably got up way earlier then us so they were way more tired. Elton was wide awake though. When it came to trips, he was usually the energized one. I had my earbuds in and was just enjoying the ride, looking out the windows.

"Hey Colby." Elton said quietly, to not wake Heath, who had finally fallen asleep, and Sam.

"Yeah?" I whispered.

"How are you?" He asked. Ah, light conversation.

"I'm... good." I said looking at Sam fast asleep on me.

"That's good." Elton said smiling. It was quiet for a moment. "I'm glad you and Sam are friends again." He said.

"... I am too." I said smiling to myself.

"I'm getting hungry. Wanna wake these two up and find a place to eat?" He asked.

"Yeah, sounds good." I said.

"Count of three?" He asked with a grin.

"Yep." I said also grinning.

"One.. Two.. Three!"

We both screamed. Heath shot up yelling "HOLY FUCK!" and Sam gripped my arm while he yelled "AHH WHAT WHAT"

Me and Elton both laughed. Heath sighed and mumbled "It's not funny." while crossing his arms.

I looked to Sam, a stupid smile on my face as I was still laughing slightly. He hit my arm and tried not to show that he was smiling.

"Did I scare you Sammy?" I asked giggling.

"Shut up.." He said smiling.

"Alrighty boys, where do you want to go eat?" Elton asked.

After about 10 minutes of arguing about where to go, we decided to stop at the classic Denny's.

 We walked in and and they gave us a booth.

"How long have we been driving?" Sam asked yawning.

"About three hours. You fell asleep about 20 mins after we hit the road." Elton said.

I took a sip of my orange juice and looked around. It was cloudy out. I liked it. The Denny's we were in was filled with the light murmur of people talking. It was calm. I looked around to see tired eyes. Nine am on a Sunday morning, everybody is tired on Sundays.

Sam elbowed me and I looked over to him.

"Did you sleep in the car?" He asked.

"Nah, I'm not very tired." I said.

He stared at me for a second, "You should sleep when we get back in the car." He said then turned back to his phone.

Do I look that tired? Or could he just tell I was tired? Honestly, I'm always tired. Never can catch a break.

The lady who was our waiter walked over holding our orders.

"Thank you." I said as she put the plate down.

I started eating my pancakes as Heath started a light conversation with Elton and Sam.

"So, we could stop at the Madonna Inn. It's pretty cool there, they have a fountain in the men's bathroom that you pee in." Heath said.

"Look at you doing research." Elton said taking a sip of his coffee.

"What? I wanted this trip to be cool. First one with those two in awhile." Heath said.

I looked up for a second and smiled before going back to eating.

"I am really excited. Haven't left LA in so long. This trip was well over due for me." Sam said.

"Me too." I said butting in finally.

"I'm glad you guys wanted to come. Gaulala is really nice and the trip there is going to be awesome." Elton said.

I hope it's awesome.
