Jeff’s P.O.V
After another few of Layla’s not-so-attractive choices of Old English Times dresses that I obviously rejected she entered the trial room with all four dresses I chose. Meanwhile, I sat outside the room, picking at my fingernails, checking my cell phone. I was posing for a selfie outside the trial room, when I heard Layla. “Jeff, are you there? Can I come out now?” I nodded, realizing she couldn’t see me, I said yes. I stood up and dusted the imaginary dust off the back of my palms on my jeans. She opened the door and slowly walked out of the room, pulling the hem of the dress, desperately trying to cover her things.
“It’s not that short, babe. You look perfect,” I said. Not meaning what I said. What? No. She was perfect, but the dress was short, she’s my girlfriend and no one is taking her away. I’m pretty sure, with that dress; guys will be on her feet. That will not happen when I’m there. Heck I won’t let that happen even if I’m there. She stood there awkwardly, her innocent face staring into me, for my next words. “What about the rest? “ I said and gave her a smile which she returned and went to try the next.
I took my seat back on the chair, but I wasn’t taking selfies or picking my fingernails. I was thinking. Clinging to the hope that maybe she has feelings for me. Even if it’s a slight degree more than friendship. Does she? It will be the turning point in my life if she does. What if she does, but is afraid to show it thinking I’ll leave her. She knows me long enough that I won’t leave her even if its costs my life. Because she is my everything. Without her, it’s like I only have half a heart. My thoughts broke through when she opened the door and if I said that didn’t make my jaw drop, I’d be lying, very badly.
She stood with hand clasped together at her stomach, shifting awkwardly. She was wearing the teal, body hugging dress. Silver glitter scared throughout the dress, giving the dress a little sparkle. Layers of teal net like material overlapped each other to form a single sleeve over her left shoulder. The dress ended a few inches below her knees. She noticed me staring, but she didn’t say anything. “Jeff. This isn’t nice is it? I should go change and settle with pink button up dress at home,” she said and turned around, embarrassed. The mention of the pink dress brought me back to reality. “Layla, wait!” I stood up. “Babe you look beautiful,” I said, meaning what I said completely. I saw her blush, a deep crimson filling her delicate cheeks when she turned around to smile at me again.
After she gently closed the door, I smiled to myself. She is beautiful, no one with the right mind can ever deny that. I loved her so much, that I hardly left room in my heart to love myself. But I can’t tell her that, and I can’t live without telling her either. We’ve been friends for more than half of my life, somewhere in between all those moments we’ve shared, I feel for her. I let out a sigh, and sat again.
“Jeff, I’m here” Layla’s voice broke my train of random thoughts that were crowding my mind. She stood there, hands on her hips in a very unlady like way. She twirled like Cinderella few times, and my head started to spin. She was wearing a sleeveless, V-neck long white dress. The bust of the gown had white roses made out of soft silk with diamond studs in the middle of each one. The dress ended a few inches below her ankle. A long white net surrounded the bottom part staring from her waist till the very end giving it the magical twirl when she spun around. The neck wasn’t very low; it rested just above the deep of her chest. The back was even more elegant. It was draped until the small of her back with a few layers of white silk. It had a big bow, across her exposed back. It made her look like a princess and brought out her youth.
“Jeff! Stop staring at me!” she said shaking my shoulders. Doesn’t she know that, I only get lost in thoughts when I’m with her? “Huh? Oh, Layla. Baby. We’ll stick with this one. You look like someone God personally carved, very carefully,” I complimented. “Shut Up Jeff.” She said and stared blankly. I sounded really dumb. But I was loss for words. Well, she made me like that. Don’t blame me. “Baby, change into your clothes. We’ll pick this and move on to the accessories,” I said. She nodded and went back in. I have to marry this woman or I’ll lose my sanity. I hung the other dresses on its respective racks and returned just as the love of my life came out.
