*I’ll leave in five minutes. Will be joining for breakfast. See you!*
I read Jeff’s text. Like I didn’t know he always joins us for breakfast. I showered right after waking up, because today is the day I’m going back to school to a new kind of life because well, I’m with Jeff, officially, and the whole school witnessed his proposal and I was prom queen. I can’t even comprehend what I have gotten myself into. I threw on a pair of dark jeans and a pink tank top with an off shoulder gray sweater. I slipped on my converse at decided to let my hair in its curly messy state. My mom was just setting the table for breakfast. “Hey Mom!” I greeted her with peck on the cheek. I sat down and texted Jeff that breakfast was ready just as he opened the front door. “LAY! I’m here! I smell food! Where are you?” I rolled my eyes, and stood up to greet him at the door. I tapped his head and he turned around. “You’re late,” I said. He smiled lazily and wrapped his arms around my waist. “Yeah, sorry,” he said and kissed me briefly. I dragged him to the kitchen as my mom filled our mugs with coffee. “Quiche. Breakfast. Hi Jeff,” my mom said and patted his back. “I’m going back to bed. Not feeling quite well. I might be having a fever or something,” she said as she popped two pills of whatever that was into her mouth and went back upstairs. Jeff sat beside me and said, “You free tonight?”. “I don’t know. It is a Monday, and we might be having a lot of homework, so I’m not sure yet. Why?”
“Um, this Saturday then? Or Friday? Was thinking if you’d want to hang out with everyone?” he said, swallowing his last bite of quiche. I nodded and said, “That’d be great! Now let’s leave. We are running late!”. I grabbed my bag and pushed Jeff out the front door.
We arrived at school after a quiet drive. Jeff and I don’t talk much unless there is something to talk about. He used to ramble way too much when he was younger but puberty taight him to speak to himself and I did the same. Internal monologues.
I entered the school hallways with Jeff’s arms on my hips. Gripping me tight. Afraid that I would fly away if he let go. “Hey Layla!” someone said, and I turned around. Miley. And she was in a normal jeans and a green hoodie holding a dude’s hand and NOT groping each other. Did I miss something? Clearly, I wasn’t the only one who had a life changing moment in the weekend and Miley had dyed her back to a darker brown and not some random colour out of the rainbow. I greeted her back and watched her walk to her locker with the dude who’s name I just recalled was Jason. I smiled at Jeff, for the transformation I was beginning to see. I didn’t get many stared from the students and most of them greeted me pretty well. I was beginning to feel that things will get better. Jeff and I met Akshay, Irene, Adam and Elsa somewhere near my locker. Akshay and Irene were together, after the date he brought her to. “Heyyyy!” Elsa hugged me and Jeff, then Irene took turns and we were just basically hugging each other. The bell rang and we bid goodbye and left for our respective classes.
School was perfect today. But I had tones of homework, so I settled in my room with a diet coke and whatever I found in the pantry. I did realize that although school was okay with no more bullying or tears. I didn’t quite feel right. Today was pretty boring, or its was just me. Whatever it was, there was this constant voice in the back of my head irking me that thing weren’t going to be good, this week.
Hey everyone. Um, I'm looking forward to steady updates because my semester break has just begun and I hope I will have enough time to update at least twice a week, or once. Please don't stop reading because that would really start worrying me. Sorry this chapter was boring, trust me I have considered deleting the story and never think of writing again. But, I wanted to give this a try, so here I am. Vote, Comment and share, pretty please with a cherry on top. Don't hate me.
