*Good morning princessss! You’re asleep aye? I don’t know I just can’t sleep. Too excited for the dance in less than 24 hours!!! :* Text me when you’re awake okaayy? I’m going to TRY to sleep at least! I luff youuu! J *

I woke up to Jeff texting me he couldn’t sleep. I smiled widely at the use of emojis he chose. Dance, he said. THE DANCE! I scampered off the bed and striped down naked and rushing to the bathroom. On the way, I took a quick glance at the wall clock showing the time 8.00 am. I paused. It is still early. I have about  8 hours until Jeff will be at my door to pick me up. I entered the shower, deciding not to shower my hair, I lathered the vanilla scented shower gel over my skin. The scent itself was enough to rejuvenate my senses. After about 10 minutes of just lathering soap all over myself, I finally stepped out of the shower. I grabbed a clean pair of undergarments and slipped the on. I picked out a gray cotton shorts and a dark pink tank top. I pull my hair into a messy bun.

I ran down the stairs, to see my mom talking to Mrs. Chance over the kitchen counter. “Good morning, love!” Mrs Chance chirped and pulled me into a hug. I greeted her in return and smiled at my mother. “Ah just in time for pancakes!” Mom said as she filled three plates full of pancakes and maple syrup and placed in front of us. I grinned widely and dug my fork in to the steaming hot pancakes. “So Calista, did Jeff like the tuxedo?” I asked Mrs. Chance after swallowing the food in my mouth. “I haven’t given him yet. I’d give him right before the dance. He’d probably barge into your room and give it back to you if I give him now. And great choice with the tuxedo. He doesn’t have one like that and its amazing,” she said and smiled. My mom volunteered to do the dishes and Mrs Chance and I walked to the patio. She sat on the rocking chair that my mom usually sits on and I sat on the blue leather bean bag I usually sit on.

“So, Layla. What colour is your dress for the dance?” Mrs Chance broke the silence. “I chose some pretty crappy dresses. But thank goodness for Jeff, he chose a really beautiful white dress. And accessories to go with it,” I smiled. She nodded. “What time do you want to start getting ready then, Layla?” Mom asked, entering the patio with a plastic chair and a throw pillow. “I don’t know. The time is now 11 am. Maybe after lunch?” I replied. “Mrs Chance and I are going for a walk, you can be alone right? We’ll be back with lunch,” mom said and I nodded. They left after an hour, and left me staring off into the distant island. I could see people sitting on the beach a few metres from my backyard. I decided to go down to the beach, so I texted my mom:

*Going to the beach for a bit. Will be back in half hour. J Have fun xx*

And slipped my phone back into my pocket and grabbed my novel titled ‘Loosing Hope’ and ran down the stairs and out through the back door.

Within minutes, I was seated on the warm sand cushioning my back. I was close enough to the ocean for the waves to hit my feet. I opened my book and began reading. The sounds of the ocean and the salty air was perfect with the autumn sun beating down on my messy brown hair.

My mom called me on my phone breaking my peaceful moment, saying she was at home with lunch. I laid there for a few seconds before finally picking myself up. I walked slowly back home, and to the kitchen to see a box of Chinese food on the table. Mom was filling a glass of orange juice as I sat.

After finishing the garlic soy sauce noodles and chicken, I was finally ready to get ready for the dance. I could see my mom and Mrs Chance smiling at me broadly as I ran up the stairs. I heard Mrs. Chance say,” Finally. They’re going to be the best couple in history. I’m so happy for them. Jeff is really lucky,” and my mother muttered, “So is Layla,” I smiled to myself and locked the door.
