Layla’s P.O.V
“Bye Mom, I’ll call you when I reach, stay safe okay? I love you,” I said, my words muffled by tears. My mom rubbed circles on my back, and continued crying. “I’ll miss you Layla, call me whenever you’re free, okay? I love you! Now you’ll be running late. Stay safe okay?” she said as she pulled away, Jeff was loading the trunk with all my luggage bags. I waved at her, and wiped my tears away. Jeff will be leaving in two weeks or less to college, so I won’t be there to send him off. I sat in the backseat before checking that my passport and all the documents were with me. I waved my mom goodbye one last time, before shutting the door, just as Jeff sat in the driver’s seat. She blew me a kiss, just as the car started to move. I relaxed in my seat, and stared out the window. “Babe? You okay?” he asked, eyes still fixed on the road. I nodded and remained silent. After 10 minutes, we reached Elsa’s driveway to pick her up, because she would be following us to the airport. Soon, we hit the highway with Adam in the backseat with me, and Elsa in the passenger seat beside Jeff.
3 hours or so later, we pulled in to the huge parking lot in front of the airport. Jeff rushed to get two luggage trolley just as we got down. He loaded my luggage and Adam’s on the trolley and pushed them towards the building. After Adam and I checked in to our flight to Australia, we had an hour and a half before the flight took off. We decided to grab lunch at a Mc’Donalds so we made our way to the outlet. “I can’t believe this is going to be last meal in America until Christmas,” I told Adam, while pouring ketchup on my burger. “HEY! Don’t forget I’m also coming with you,” he said and swapped my arm. We laughed as we took our burgers and returned to our table where Adam and Elsa were sitting. Adam and I constantly talked about how nervous and excited we were to go to Australia. After eating our burgers, we walked around the airport and came to the first security check. I turned to face Jeff, how was shifting awkwardly, and wrapped my arms around his neck. “I’ll miss you so much. I’ll call you when I after we get our new number, okay?” I said and kissed his cheek, before pulling away. “Layla?” he called out softly. “Yeah?” I asked and turned around. He grabbed my face hastily, and pushed his lips towards mine. “I love you, okay?” he said in the kiss, and I nodded. After he pulled away, he let his hands stay around my waist and whispered in my ear, “I don’t like Adam. Stay safe around him, okay?” and I swapped his arm. “Now, you’re being silly. He’s fine,” I said and turned around to see Adam talking to Elsa. “Okay then, I’ll be late if I stay any longer. I love you, okay?” I said and pecked him on the lips one last time. I hugged Elsa tightly and told her to take care before heading towards the security and waved at both of them.
After we were done with all the security checks, we walked towards the waiting area to see everyone already heading towards the plane that we were supposed to be getting on. Without wasting any time we hurriedly jogged towards the queue and waited for our turns to board the plane. “This is going to be a long journey,” Adam said, and intertwined his fingers with mine. I looked up to him, and smiled, to which he returned with a peck on the cheek.
2 Weeks Later
Jeff’s P.O.V
We took Elsa’s SUV to drive to campus. These two weeks were hell without Layla, I hope Adam is taking good care of her or I’ll snap his neck. I’ll Skype her once we were settled in college. Elsa volunteered to drive because she didn’t want me to ‘drive it through the streets of hell’. After about 3 hours, we reached our college campus, and headed straight to the main office were we told to go. After settling out everything, we were given keys to our dorm room. Mine was on the ‘KRISENTHA’ block and Elsa’s was on the ‘VINAYAH’ block, we had no clue what these meant, but didn’t make a fuss out of it. It turned out that all the rooms in KRISENTHA were single dorm rooms and so was Elsa’s. I unpacked my bags and hung in my clothes in the cupboard beside my bed. The room was a moderate size, with a queen sized bed in the corner. Beside that was a mahogany desk with drawers and a built in shelf. Next to it was the door that led to the bathroom which had a small tub and a shower with everything else a basic bathroom would have, next to the bathroom was a walk in closet, the size of a storeroom and in there was the cupboard, and a few drawers. Opposite my bed was a huge chalkboard for me to hang up whatever I wanted to, so I started by pinning pictures of Layla and I.
“Hey?” I heard a knock on the door, and Elsa walked in. “I finished settling in,” she said and sat down on my bed. “Do you wanna go grab lunch? I heard the cafeteria has some great food,” she continued. “Oh yeah? Heard from whom?” I asked her, knowing the answer already. “Um, from the signboard I guess?” and I laughed. “Oh come on! I’m starving! Let’s go!” he pouted. “Coming, coming. Let me just arranged my shampoo bottles in here,” I said and she nodded.
“Um, I’ll have a chicken sandwich with cheese and a chocolate milkshake. Elsa, what do you want?” I asked her. “Um, can I have a slice of chicken pie, and hot chocolate?” she ordered. “Hey, I’ll pay for the food, why don’t you go save a table for us?” I said and her eyes lit up. “You’re paying for me? Thankss! And okay!” she said and kissed me on the cheek before running off to find a table. I smiled at her running, and touched my cheek where she kissed, and smiled again. “Is she your girlfriend?” the lady behind the counter asked. “What? Who? Yeah, wait, no no. She’s just a friend,” I said, and that sounded so much like I was hiding that she was my girlfriend. I shook my head, paid for the food, and went to look for the table Elsa had found.
