"Are you good at dealing with fire," I asked Brendon, laughing slightly under my breath. He shook his head. "We're both going to have charred hands by the time this lab is through." Today in chemistry, we were doing a flame test lab, which is where you identify what metal was in the solutions that we dipped popsicle sticks in. Brendon and I were in charge of a Bunsen burner and the chemicals, so this would be interesting.

"Do you know the colors and what metals go with them?" He nodded and wrote down a key on a piece of paper. "Awesome. Wait, Barium is green," I asked. He laughed and nodded again. "Dude, this is going to be awesome!" His smile grew as I spoke. It was like he was hanging on every word I said, and I loved it.

"Dude," Brendon looked at me with a raised brow. "Yeah, you got a problem," I sassed. He nodded. I scoffed and put my hand to my chest in mock hurt. "Don't be an idiot. Let's go grab the chemicals," he teased, wrapping his small fingers around my wrist and jumping up to pull me over to the main lab desk where the chemical solutions were.

It was cute that his hands were smaller than mine. I wondered what it would feel like to hold them in my own hands. They just seemed so delicate. I absolutely adored the way he played with the hem of his shirt when he was listening to the teacher give instructions. His tiny fingers would slowly bunch up the fabric and slightly wrinkle it. God, he was work of art.

"Which five do you want to choose?" I was snapped out of my thoughts by Brendon clicking my pen while he waited for me. "Hm? Oh, sorry, I was just uh thinking. How about you pick three and I've got the other two," I suggested, recovering from my daze. He nodded and tried to fit three beakers of liquid in his hands. I turned away for a second to choose two, when I was met with an alarming clinking sound.

"Brendon, are you-" I went to ask as I turned. Once he was fully in my view, I saw him trying to stretch his fingers so that he could carry the glass containers. "Here, I've got this one. You can carry those two and my green pen that I brought over for some reason." He nodded and smiling up at me, loving the idea of helping me carry something.

I mentally high-fived myself for thinking of asking him to grab my pen. Even though it didn't seem like a really meaningful task, being asked to carry something for me was nicer to hear than just 'I'll take that too'. The pure innocence and happiness in his eyes when he smiled up at me made my heart lurch. "Let's go burn some chemicals," I said as we made our way back to the lab station.

Brendon's face seemed brighter. He seemed so happy and just... comfortable. I didn't know how else to describe it. His eyes would light up like Christmas lights every time I'd speak to him, his smile was wider than usual, and his posture wasn't as slouched over as I'd noticed it to be. Could it have been me? Could I have been the one to cause this boy's newfound happiness?

"Dallon, do you think that my hands are too small?" I snorted as I read his board. He looked up at me with a confused smile. "Sorry, that was a weird question. But, no. Your hands are the perfect size, small boy," I told him. He scoffed and hit my arm. "I'm not small!" I raised my eyebrows and motioned for him to stand up. He rolled his eyes and stayed sitting. "Come on," I whined and pulled him off of the stool as I stood.

I placed my hand on the top of his head and measured his height compared to my own. "You said you're not small?" He laughed and went to sit back down. "Wait, wait, wait," I started. He looked up at me. "I want to laugh at the height difference a little longer." He ran a hand through his hair, laughing at me, and sat.

Once I got home, I was exhausted. Ryker and Tanner were bothering me about Brendon all day. I told Brendon that I was going to message him, so I pulled out my phone as I flopped onto my bed.

Dallonjw: Hey

Brenny_boy: Hey

Dallonjw: How was your day

Brenny_boy12: Ok

Dallonjw: Just ok?

Brenny_boy12: I guess it was better than usual

Dallonjw: And why's that

Brenny_boy12: Idk it just was

Dallonjw: Did anyone bother you today

Brenny_boy12: Yes

My heart sank into my stomach when I read that. This pure boy didn't deserve any of the shit he got from people. I felt anger rise inside of me.

Dallonjw: Who

Brenny_boy12: You

Dallonjw: Explain

Brenny_boy12: I'm not small

Dallonjw: ODJFNEKSJFBF

Dallonjw: I WAS GETTING READY TO DESTROY SOMEONE TOMORROW

Brenny_boy12: Why

Dallonjw: I don't want you to get hurt

Brenny_boy12: Oh

Brenny_boy12: Thank you

Dallonjw: You're welcome

Brenny_boy12: How tall are you

Dallonjw: Almost 6'4"

Brenny_boy12: I'M NOT SMALL YOU'RE JUST A GIANT

Dallonjw: Stop roasting me, small boy

Just then, I got a text from Spencer that read something that made my heart lurch.

Spencer: Hey, does Brendon know that Ms. B is starting to make everyone present their lab reports in front of the class?

Dallon: What

Spencer: You didn't know either?

Dallon: How am I going to tell him, Spence? He'll be so upset

Spencer: Idk I'm sorry

Dallon: I don't know what I'm going to do. How can I just tell him that?

Spencer: Idk but you should let him know asap

Dallon: I seriously hate everything right now. He told me that he had a really good day

I got another Skype message from Brendon.

Brenny_boy12: Dallon

Brenny_boy12: I had fun in chem today

Brenny_boy12: Thank you for being so nice to me

There was a lump caught in the back of my throat. He was happy and liked being in chemistry class with me. I was overjoyed at that, but I was about to ruin his day. It was beyond frustrating for me to have to do this to him.

Dallonjw: I'd never dream of being anything but nice to you

Brenny_boy12: :')

Dallonjw: Spencer just told me that Ms. B is going to make everyone present their lab reports in class
