My heart had been broken a thousand times over from all of the times I'd seen Brendon get broken down, but seeing him laying in the hospital with only tear stains bringing color to his cheeks left my heart shattered into a million pieces. "Bren, baby, is there anything I can get you," I asked, sighing at his distant look. "I d-d-don't know. I just want to s-see all of our f-friends," he whispered sadly. "Sweetheart, the doctors said it's a bad idea for you to be around that many people right now," I told him. "I-I know. I just- can you l-ay with me," he sniffled. "Yeah, I can do that."
Brendon buried his head in my chest and tried to calm himself down. "C-can I have-have your b-blanket," he asked with tears in his eyes. I nodded and wrapped him in the old fleece blanket. "You'll be okay, honey. The doctors said once you're able to breathe without the chest tube, you can go home. Yesterday, you only needed the tube seven times," I tried to calm him. "I-I can't g-go home, Dallon. My-my dad- he's," I put my hand in his hair and shushed him softly. "Baby, you're not going to be staying there anymore. Jack and I went over to your house when your dad was at work and packed all of your stuff up. It's in the guest room at my house in boxes right now because we didn't know if you'd want to live with me and if you'd want your own room."
I looked at him to see that he was starting to cry again. "Sweetheart, I'm sorry if I overstepped my boundaries by doing that," I whispered into his ear. "Thank y-you so much, D-Dallon," he told me, pushing his face further into my neck. "You're welcome, baby. The doctor passed me in the hallway earlier and told me that someone would be coming in to check your vitals soon," I spoke softly. He nodded.
Brendon slept for a couple hours after the nurse came in. While he was out, I went to the café and bought as much junk food as I could carry. He was just waking up when I got back. He frantically looked for me because I wasn't in the chair beside him. "Hey, baby. I'm here. It's okay," I told him softly. "Th-thank you f-f-for that b-y the wa-way." I looked at him with confusion clearly present on my face. "For what, hun?" He genuinely smiled at me for what seemed like the first time in ages. "For be-i-i-ing here. I'd have-ha-have died of lo-o- loneliness with-without you." His voice was a bit hoarse from just having woken up, but it was sweet. He was sweet.
Then, there was a knock at the door. "D-D-Dal, make th-em go a-away. They j-just checked my vitals," Brendon whined. I grinned at him. "Baby, I don't think that's the nurse." He furrowed his eyebrows at me, but broke out into a huge smile when he saw who walked through the door.
Jack, Nick, and Spencer came walking in, holding all the junk food I bought at the café. I looked over, and Brendon had his face buried in his hands. He was trying to hide that he'd started crying. "Oh, baby, why're you crying," I asked him, putting my arm around him. "They-I-I-I- you really b-brought them h-here. I-I-I-I just- I-I love- I love you s-so much," he sobbed. I hugged him tightly and waved our friends over to the side of the bed.
"Hey, B. We missed you so much. I can't even explain how weird music class has been without you," Jack laughed slightly. "I m-m-missed you t-t-oo," he smiled, wiping away some of his tears. He took my hand and squeezed it. I placed a kiss on the top of his head and just let him catch up with his friends. He looked so happy. It made my heart swell. It felt like everything if Brendon's chaotic life was finally settling. Even though he was still in the hospital, he would be released and would come home with me. He'd be safe for once in his fucking life. He'd have someplace to call home.
I was pulled from my thoughts by Brendon's nurse bursting through the doors. "Hey, is everything alright in here," Tristan asked. He was panting, and his face was all red. "Y-yeah, I'm okay. W-w-why are y-ou so out of b-b-reath-th," Bren responded. Tristan put a hand to his own face and noticed how flushed his face must have been. "I have a pager that is linked specifically to your room because you're my principle patient, and I got a notification that you pressed the help button on your remote, but I was all the way on the bottom floor by the front desk, so I ran up here as fast as I could," he explained. "I-I don't even -know where-where the rem-mote is."
Brendon started looking among the sheets. His face flushed a light shade of pink as he found that the remote was under his thigh. "I-I'm so sorry, T-Tristan." Tristan finally caught his breath and assured Brendon that it was okay and not a big deal. "Thank y-you for b-being so de-edicated, Tristan. I-I app-reciate it," Bren spoke softly. "No problem, Brendon. Just call if you need anything." Tristan waved and left the room.
As soon as the door shut behind Tristan, Spencer piped up. "Okay, so like, I'm not gay, but that guy was hot, right?" Nick and Jack nodded their heads. I looked at Brendon, who was looking at his lap, his cheeks red. He looked so adorable. "What about you, Bren. Do you think Tristan's hot?" Brendon's eyes went wide. "W-what? N-n-n-no! I-I think he's nice, but I don't think that-that he's hot! I-I swear," he said quickly, tears welling up in his eyes. "Hey, Bren. He was just messing with you. Everyone knows you love Dallon. It's chill if you think Tristan's hot," Spencer said before I could. "Yeah, babe. It's okay. I was just messing around. I'm sorry," I said, placing my arm around his shoulders. "He's k-kinda h-h-hot though, right, D?" I laughed and kissed Brendon softly. "Yeah, B, but you're hotter." He smiled up at me. "You're even h-hotter, a-a-and I love you-you so much," he told me. "I love you more, baby," I countered. "I love you m-m-most."
