Sarah POV

I was sleeping peacefully next to Connor when my alarm began to sound. I groaned as I rolled over and his eyes met mine. "Good morning to you too" he chuckled. It was December 23rd and Auggie had one more appointment with Dr. Charles before the holidays.  On the 28th Auggie would be called to testify in front of a jury about what her attackers did. Then I would have to beg her to start school. My heart ached for my sister. "I need to go wake her up." I rolled over again and sleep my feet into my slippers. I opened the door and headed to Auggies.

Sylvie was standing in the kitchen making breakfast. "Morning" I said still heading to Auggies room. "Rise and shine." I opened the door to see her laying in her bed staring at the ceiling. "How long have you been awake?" I stood at the door. "She looked over to the alarm clock at the bed. "Three hours and 43 minutes" I looked at the clock too and did some math. "4:17?" I asked in shock. "Yeah." she said still looking at the ceiling. "Breakfast!" Sylvie said. "Lets go." I left her door open for her to walk into the kitchen. I laughed as Connor was already sitting at the table.

Auggie sat down at the round table rubbing her eyes. "Tired?" Sylvie asked. "A little." she sighed resting her head on the table. "Auggie why didn't you try to fall back asleep?" I helped Sylvie set the table. "It isn't that easy." she snapped back. "I just can't." she sat back up. "Auggie I think maybe we should try sleeping pills." I sat down at the table and we all began to eat. "You." she corrected me. "Excuse me?" I asked. "Maybe you should try sleeping pills. Is what you meant." she reached for eggs. "Right. You is what I meant." I accepted my defeat. "So you have a meeting with Dr. Charles at 10 and then were going to get your stitches out at 11;30, and Sylvie is working today. So is Connor. So its just you and me." she nodded as she enjoyed her eggs.

Before long Auggie, Connor, and myself headed off to the hospital. Auggie was now allowed to wear jeans. Which she was wearing, with a pink winter coat over her. She wore a hat that covered her stitches that were so ready to be removed. I held Connors head as she walked ahead of us. "Hey Aug I was thinking we could do lunch at Eatly today, sound good?" I asked her. "Sounds good." she turned to answer me. First she met with Dr. Charles for an hour. I thought that this would be a good time to check on some of my old patients.

"Aurora." I smiled as I entered to the room. My former patient that had depression frowned at me. She was 19 and when having her good moments reminded me of my sister. "You left." she continued to frown. "I'm sorry. I had an emergency." I tried to console her. "Your precious little sister comes first." she said slyly. "Excuse me?" I registered her rudeness. "Your sister. Heard she got beaten. You treating her now instead of me? I really thing she could benefit by seeing Charles more. Definitely not the new guy they stuck me with. When are you coming back?"  I was surprised by her words to me. "Aurora, I would appreciate it if you did not speak as if you knew what my sister was going thru." I said sternly. "You're right. I apologize." she nodded. "The other doctors said you were making progress." she chuckled. "Yeah sure." I decided that now would be a good time to leave. "Well Aurora I think I'm going to leave now. The hospital has my number if you need me."

I made my rounds and went to pick up Auggie. As we were leaving to go get her stitches taken up I got concerned as I saw Aurora out of her room. "So this is her. Smaller than I expected." Aurora stared from a distance. "What's she talking about?" Auggie asked me with worried eyes. "You know what why don't we go another way." I said placing my hand on her back to steer her away from Aurora. "You're just going to leave again? Bet you would never leave your precious sister like that." I turned around "Stay behind me." I whispered to Auggie. "Sarah" she whispered back. "She has something in her hand." It was a pocket knife. I have no idea as to how she got it. "Aurora put down the knife." I told her. She held it to her wrists. "Auggie don't watch" she was peaking out from behind me. "Why should I? I'm not making progress. You left. Nobody can help me anymore." she said still holding it to her wrist. People now were watching. "That isn't true Aurora we can help you. You were doing so go.." I could finish my sentence before she put the knife in her wrist pulling it towards her. She then managed to jab herself in the stomach. Auggie screamed as we watched the blood pour from her wrists.

Nurses and doctors gathered around her to help. I held my crying sister. Why god did she have to see this.
