Auggie POV
There was quietness around me. I was unsure of where I was. The smell was familiar but I was alone. "Hello." I was able to croak up. I was in my own room. It was dark. I could tell I was in the ICU. I knew this hospital better than I would like to admit.
Maggie brisk-fully walked in the room with a smile painted across her face. "Welcome back Ms. Reese."
Back? Had I died?
Without hesitation I smiled contagiously back and Maggie. Deloris and Monique had also joined us as well as Connor. "How are things looking, Maggie?" Connor asked. I looked at Maggie intently waiting for her answer. "Everything looks great, Doctor Rhodes."
Connor read my charts. Maggie still hovered over me. "Maggie, where is Sarah?" I asked somewhat quietly. "She'll be here soon."
"How do you feel, Auggie?" Connor asked as he ran a thermometer over my forehead. "Um good, I guess." I smiled at him. "There is no guessing, Auggie. How do you feel?" my smile dropped. Maggie rubbed my shoulder in assurance. "My stomach hurts and I'm tired." I answered shortly. "Do you know what day it is?" he asked. "Saturday night?" I was very unsure of any answer. "Its Wednesday night. You've been asleep for four days."
"Four?" I was shocked. "I.. I don't understand. Connor.."
Sarah walked through the door. "I was asleep for four days?" I questioned? She nodded. "Do I have the kidney?"
"You have the kidney. You're fine."
"But what happened? Why four days?" Sarah looked at Connor. "Hello?" I made sure why question was heard. "There were complications." Connor sighed. "What kind of complications?" I needed details. "You stats started to drop. You were bleeding out. We luckily found the bleed and was able to bring your stats up. Unfortunately you had to stay on the vent for a few days longer."
"But I'm okay now?" Sarah smiled. "You're just fine."
"Then everything okay. Don't be upset Connor. Everything is okay now. We can go home soon and I can go back to school and everything will be okay." Connor broke a smile. "You're right, kid."
Two Years Later:
Sarah POV:
"Auggie come on we're going to be late!" I yelled from across the hall. Out from her bedroom in a cap and gown came my sister. So much older and more mature than when I first gained custody of her. She was healthy, she was thriving. She would be attending UIC in the fall majoring in pre medicine. She wanted to be a doctor.
"I'm coming geez' we won't be late!" she yelled back at me grinning from ear to ear. "Connor is downstairs. "
I watched my sister graduate. I watched her go to prom. I watched her get her heart broken. I watched her go. Now I was watching her move on to the next part of her life.
