I stood frozen to the ground. Hermione was crying into Ron's shoulder, and Harry had a hold of mine. My knees gave way, and I fell to the floor, staring at my hands. I felt hot tears rushing to my eyes, and tried to stop them.
But I couldn't. My parents were being tortured to death, and I didn't even know where they were. I had failed to protect them from Voldemort. If Voldemort can get to my parents all the way in the country, then he can get anywhere.
"Isn't there anything you can do?" I asked between sobs. McGonagall shook her head, her face full of dismay.
"There is no way we can locate your parents. Unless either of you two know where they would be on a Thursday night?"
Hermione and I both looked at each other, saying the words at the exact same time.
"In house movie night." McGonagall looked at us both.
"Trust me," I said. "They are at our house in Surrey. Based off the looks of it, they were in the basement." McGonagall stormed out of the Common Room, probably planning to apparate. Hermione and I both ran after her.
"Professor," Hermione said. "We should come with you,"
"And why is that?" McGonagall asked, not slowing down a smidge.
"They are our parents Professor," I said. "We can..... prove if they are actually our parents or not!" I was struggling to come up with a reason.
"I can do that just fine myself Miss Potter."
Hermione was struggling to keep her composure. Her fists were balled, and her face was turing red."Excuse me Professor, but I believe my parents would prefer being identified by their own children rather than a complete stranger!"
Professor McGonagall stopped dead in her tracks. She looked back at me with my clenched fists, and Hermione with tears rolling down her face. I don't know what happened, but her next words were enough to make me believe she was an imposter.
"Ok Miss Potter and Miss Granger. You may come along."
Hermione and I wasted no time, running ahead of McGonagall towards Hogsmeade, where we could then apparate. McGonagall was behind us, not struggling at all to keep up. We ran all the way to Hogsmeade, not even stopping to catch our breath.
Once we reached Hogsmeade, McGonagall wasted almost no time. She grabbed Hermione and I both by the arms, and we apparated away, a deafening crack being the only sign that we left.
I instantly felt like I was being shoved into a pipe. I couldn't breathe, and I felt as if I was trapped for hours.
I never really was a fan of Side-By-Side Apparation.Once we arrived, I collapsed into the ground, realizing how much I missed air going through my lungs. Hermione pulled me up, and we walked down the street to our house.
Once we got there, I instantly knew they were there. The windows had all been blown out, and the front door was knocked off its hinges. Inside, our furniture was all knocked over, picture frames were shattered, and the mantel above the fireplace was knocked off the wall.
Hermione let out a small sob at the sight. McGonagall led us forward, her wand at ready. I was looking in our kitchen for any sight of our parents, when there was a slight hissing sound.
I froze, listening around me, trying to find the snake. I believed it was Nagini. That thing was like a guard dog without legs. Sure enough, I saw the beady yellow eyes of the snake approaching me from the basement.
I should have been screaming. I don't know what overcame me, but instead of screaming and trying to run, I started talking to the snake.
"Why are you here?" I asked.
"I have a job that must be done," she said back. Hermione walked in behind me, with McGonagall on her tail. They both started in horror at the monster of a snake before them.
"What job? Why are my parents involved?"
"They are an obstacle. They got in our way. They will have to pay." The snake paused, and I heard a faint spurt of Parsletounge.
"And so will you."
