My alarm beeps and screams and makes all manner of racket to awake me from my slumber. I rose groggily from my magenta sheets and looked at the clock, it was nearly midnight, right when my shift started.
I looked out the window next to my bed, a crescent moon was rising high in the sky, I sighed and wrapped myself in a large fuzzy jacket over my shirt and slipped on my shoes.
My raven hair was a mess and I could barely keep my eyes open. You would think after two years I would be used to this, but I wasn't, my internal clock was all wrong.
I trudge to elevator and push the button to get to the ground floor.
The soothing elevator music was not helping my grogginess, thankfully, the ride didn't take too long.
As I stepped into the lobby I did notice, in my groggy stupor, two very peculiar people, both had dark black suits and black sunglasses to cover their eyes and one was talking into an earpiece.
The other followed me with his eyes and I was suddenly very, very awake, I quickly left the building and started down the road to my bus stop.
I couldn't shake the feeling I was being followed, I refused to look behind me however, and when I reached the bench that signified the stop I reluctantly stopped to look.
Nothing, not a soul, I sighed in relief and turned to face the road.
"A little late to be out isn't it?" I jump ten feet in the air and whip so quickly around that I dizzy myself.
It was the guy from the elevator, his hands stuffed in his pockets and an ambivalent expression trained on me, I gulped, this man was going to be the death of me.
"Then why are you?" I snap back at him, and for a moment I could've sworn I saw him smirk. But maybe not, as he was back to his normal, blank expression.
"I asked you first." I sighed as the bus pulled up to the stop, and I was glad to be rid of him for the night.
"I'm going to work. Good-" He follows me onto the bus, and cocks his head in what can only be described as amusement.
"So am I." I growl under my breath and find a seat, and as fate would have it, there are only two seats, right next to each other.
I sat and he stared at the seat beside me before plopping his huge figure next to me.
I looked at him for a moment, and I decided I should at least be pleasant. And try to make him feel welcome.
"Where do you work? There aren't many shifts this late." He looked down upon me like a giant looking down upon a tiny human and twiddles his thumbs.
"This kids pizza place, with freaky looking animatronics." My jaw dropped, I had heard Gene, My boss, talking about getting me a partner, but him?! Why?!
"Are you kidding me? Ugh... So do I." He looked surprised at first, and then he returned the favor by leaning down to me, wether to hear me better or freak me out I was unsure.
"Oh... Uh... Sorry, about earlier, I didn't mean to scare you..." I heard some nervousness in his voice and I sighed inwardly, if this guy was my coworker then I at least needed his name.
"It's fine, I just saw those guys in suits and got a little on edge." I reply, and if anything that made him more tense and he grumbled to himself.
"Yeah, they do that." I managed to hear before a bump in the road jostled the conversation from our minds.
"I never got your name." I said politely and he stayed silent for a moment before responding.
"Uh... Aaron." Aaron, that was a very common name but somehow it made me so much more interested in his character.
