ONE-SHOT It's taken me nearly an entire year to organise this birthday party—but it's all worth it now. Everything is just how it should be and everyone seems happy, including the birthday girl whom is smothered in all the attention her little heart desires.

Not to toot my own horn or anything but I think I did an incredible job with this place. I didn't want Ella to have a birthday party in the community hall, for obvious reasons, but I'm glad we're here.

I'm also grateful for the hall letting me redecorate the place.

The walls of hall are completely covered in pink blankets and white drapes going around the edges, not to mention that the whole ceiling is covered in golden fairy lights. I know it's a bit of a fire risk, but there's multiple parents keeping an eye on things which is all very reassuring. Other than the pretty interior everyone seems to be really happy—which of course makes me happy.

Every now and again I catch Ella trying to get my attention from her table. When no one is looking, she quickly waves at me while munching away on a carrot stick. It's her favourite snack, though she'll probably go off of them in a week or two. None of her favourite foods seem to stay her favourite for long.

Barely a second later and I watch her go back to having a in-depth discussion about something, which is always funny. I wonder what a four year old could talk about that looks so...important.

Ella and her closest friends are dressed as the Avengers. Ever since she first saw the films she claimed herself as Black Widow, so that's who she is today. Her excuse is that 'I have Black Widows hair and I do ballet'. My hair is naturally blonde and her fathers is...dark, so she is right about her hair natural colour.

I don't know how, but somehow over the summer holidays Ella managed to convince me to dye the bottom of it platinum for the complete 'Endgame' look. I gave in after several weeks, but admittedly it does suit her. She loves it so much that this might become her new stolen trademark. If the schools complain I can say that it's only the ends of her hair. If it was the roots then fair enough, tell me off for being irresponsible, but because it isn't...I'm just giving my daughter what she wants.

"Tessa, this party is amazing!" One of the other mothers say with a wide smile.

"It could've been better..." my voice trails off while she shakes her head while looking like I'm a deranged mad woman.

"It's a fucking perfect party. The best me and Jules have ever been too." She nods her head towards her daughter, who is dressed up as The Scarlett Witch. Julia, or Jules, is Ella's best friend. They can't go a day without seeing each other which is super cute. I crack a smile at her compliment before excusing myself away from her.

While I go to get a cup of juice...my eyes widen when I see my ex standing in the doorway of the hall. He has no idea about Ella whatsoever.

"Tessa, love, where are you going? Ella wants you!" My husband, Tommy, shouts over from our table. I close my eyes wide I try to ignore his loving calls. I still feel horrible for lying to him all this time, Tommy's a wonderful soul.

"Fuck off, Dan." I say in a hushed voice while I walk up to him.

Dan Smith hasn't changed much in six, or seven, years since I've seen him. Well, apart from his fluffy hair has completely gone. I can still identify the fucker though.

"How about you fucking tell me the truth, huh?" I close my eyes and rub the back of my neck while Dan heavy footed walks over to me. Feeling scared, I back away, only to be pinned onto the wall behind me.

I have no escape.

"What truth?" I play dumbstruck to my own little girl. However, Dan slightly shakes his head looking at me...with this disbelieved glint in his dark blue eyes. He knows that I'm lying...how does he know?

"You've been fucking follow me, haven't you?"

I know Dan can play the role of a nice guy, and I hope that deep down he really is that guy that his fans believe he is. But I highly doubt it. Dan can be horrible when he's pushed and provoked.

"I went to Cheltenham Races for the first time with a few of my mates, and I saw you there. I was planning on talking to you and apologising for being a bastard...but then I saw her..." Dan's points towards the door of the hall, where directly through it is Ella's table.

Peeping through the glass is Ella...oh fuck.

"Get off of me!" I angrily yell while I push Dan away from me with all of my strength. Dan backs off and Ella curiously walks in while I take a deep breath. I'm not prepared to tell her yet about her father...

"Baby." I day in a patronising light voice while I hug her tightly. I even pick her up just so that he doesn't try any funny business and take her away from me.

"Who is he?" She whispers, although she's still loud.

"He's no one. Just an annoying salesman trying to sell us a TV." With that Dan humorously laughs at my lie.

"I'm a friend, darling. I like your costume by the day...did you see Endgame?" He mentioned her trigger words. Ella won't shut up talking to him now...oh god. He fucking knows what kids are like, he has two nephews of his own. Fuck knows how he is also even a Godparent.

"Do you like Natasha." Of course he fucking likes the bird who plays her...he has a crush on her.

"She's ridiculously amazing, it was a bit sad when she died though." Ella struggles to be put down and then holds my hand.

"Did you cry? I cried."

Dan stares at me and smiles. This fucker is legitimately gloating right now. God, I hate him. "Oh yeah, me and my friends definitely cried. They was more sad about Tony and Captain America though..." with that Ella shyly giggles while Dan then points to the hall.

"Don't you dare." I hiss while Dan hold's both of his hands up.

"You go and save the world in there okay, Black Widow? I've got...televisions to sell to your mum." I close my eyes as Ella strangely does as she's told.

There's silence after she shuts the door.

"She has my eyes." Oh god.

"Ella isn't your daughter, Dan. I don't know what to say...my husband and I are luckily to have her. The pregnancy was terrible and then he got his cancer diagnosis and he's been deteriorating ever since." Tommy's outlived his life expectancy for two months now, so it's a miracle that he's even with us. Although he's bound to his wheelchair for the rest of his life.

"You fucked your ex...behind your terminally ill husbands back?" I close my eyes while I feel the tears push through.

Dan laughs in disbelief, "we both know that Ella is my little girl. And you're not letting me be with her...because of your horrible lie." I hate him. I hate him. I hate him.

"Fucking tell me the truth!" He screams. Thankfully for us everyone is inside of the hall dancing to Old Town Road on full volume.

"No..." I cry while he gets angry again.

"Tell me...the fucking truth!" He screams with his blue eyes turning red.

"Okay! Fine!" I cry while I hold my head in both of my palms.

"You're her biological father...okay?"
