Takeaki Enomoto
Second in command of the shogunate navy, and captain of the flagship Kaiyomaru.
Takeo Hattori
A member of the Guardians of the Imperial Tomb. He moved to the captial with Itou. He was oriinally a member of the Shinsengumi before joining the Guard.
Tama
Refers to Tama Country--also known as Bushu--in the Musashi province. Both Kondou and Hijikata are natives of this area.
Tamuramaro Sakanoue
A shogun during the Heian period. He defeated Suzuka Gozen, a female demon who lived in the Suzuka Mountain, and conquered the Tohoku region.
Tenma Inn
Saito guarded Kyutaro Miura of the Kishu Domain by using this innas a hiding place.
Tennen Rishin
A school of swordplay popular in the Tama region. Kondou is a maser of the style, and Hijikata, Okita, and Inoue were among his students.
Ten'nou Mountain
An important, heavily-traveled location in the southern part of Kyoto. It is adjacent to the Settsu province.
Terada Inn
An inn located in Sushimi. It is often frequented by warriors of the Satsuma and Tosa Domains.
The Code
Shinsengumi regulations that were to be strickly obeyed.
The Corps
The names used by the members of the Shinsengumi to refer to a secret unit within their organization.
The Guard
Shorthand for the Guardians of the Imperial Tomb, who were founded by Itou after leaving the Shinsengumi.
The Watch
An organization that monitored internal Shinsengumi affairs and conducted external covert reconnisance. They reported directly to Commander Hijikata.
The Western Fleet
The group of four nations Great Britian, France, Netherlands, and the United States) opposing the Choshu effort to expel allforeign influences in Japan on behalf of Emperor Komei.
Three Houses
The three families closest in blood to the Tokugawa.
Tonami
Another name for the Shimokita penninsula in the Aomori prefecture.
Tosa Domain
A domain ruled by the Opposition daimyo Yamauchi. The domain supported Imperial Unificiation, but many ronin from the Tosa region were nationalistic imperialists.
Tosa Loyalist Party
An organization located within the Tosa Domain that believes in Imperialism. They were led by Zuisan Takechi, but instability from constant opposition forced the group to disband.
Toshimichi Okubo
A Satsuma warrior who was mildly involved in turning the Satsuma Domain against the shogunate.
Toshizo Hijikata [1]
The Commander of the Shinsengumi. He is a longtime friend of Kondou, and helped him from the Shinsengumi in Kyoto. Kondou calls him "Toshi."
Toshizo Hijikata [2]
Hijikata became a fury after drinking the Water of Life.
Tottori Domain
Although their lord was the older brother of Shogun Yoshinobu Tokugawa, they assisted the imperial army during the Battle of Toba-Fushimi and many subsequent battles.
Toudou Domain
Another name for the Tsu Domain.
Tsu Domain
A domain governed by the daimyo Toudou. Although he was an Opposition daimyo, he was given the same respect as a Predecessor.
Tsuyoshi Okubo
The name given to Isami Kondou by the shogunate, along with a promotion to the rank of Executive Lieutenant-Minister, upon his assignment to defend Koshu from uprisings. "Okubo" was a name bestowed only on important vassals or retainers.
