I watched my sister with concerned eyes as she sat with Edward on the couch. She was growing weaker and weaker every day, growing closer to death. I feared for my little sister. She had been my life for years, I was always putting her before myself. I couldn't stand to see her like this.
"Tell me truthfully, she's not going to make it through this is she?" I asked Carlisle as he appeared next to me. The blonde doctor looked at me with sympathetic eyes. "I will do everything I can to save her, but I can't promise you anything Piper." He told me. I looked at him with sorrow filled eyes. "You better do everything you can, or my face will be the last thing you ever see."
The three hundred and fifty-year-old cold one looked at me with slightly terrified eyes. He knew what I could do, he's seen it before. I nodded at him and went outside to clear my head.
I sat down on the porch and looked up at the night sky. I knew the wolves were out there, I could sense them, feel their eyes on me. "I know you're out there, and you know I don't want to fight you," I say loud enough for them to hear me. They didn't move, they kept their attention solely on me.
"She's my sister, I swore when she was born that I'd protect my little sister at all costs. I've risked my life for her so many times in the last five years, I am willing to die for her. I always have been. I know how much you all fear the baby that my sister carries in her womb, I know that you feel threatened by this child. I know that you don't want to hurt Bella and me, but if it comes down to a fight, I will kill you if you harm my sister or my niece."
They left soon after that, going back to patrolling the grounds around the Cullen house.
I found myself in the kitchen with the Cullens and Jacob discussing Bella. "So, that's the last of it?" Jake asks, pointing to the last blood bag Carlisle had in the house.
"Bella could deliver as early as tomorrow. If she's going to have any chance at all, she'll need more blood." He tells us, resting gently on the counter. I held my head in my hands. This was all happening too soon.
"You need to feed. You have to be at your strongest for her. We need to go tonight." Esme tells her husband.
"You're the enemy now. Sam and the pack won't hesitate. You'll be slaughtered and I'll be damned if I let you die before Bella has that damn baby." I tell the doctor.
The group gathered in the kitchen looked at me with black eyes. "We don't have a choice, Piper. If there's anything we can do to save her, we have to try."
I didn't listen to the doctors' excuses and walked into the living room. Edward and Bella were still talking on the couch, and I smiled softly at them. "Can I talk to Bella for a minute?" I asked the cold one.
Edward nodded and got up to speak with his family about tonight. Bella looked at me with her dull chocolate brown eyes. "You haven't spoken to me since we came home." She says.
I looked at my sister sadly. "When mom and dad told me I was going to be a big sister, I swore a vow to myself that I wouldn't let any harm come to you, that I'd do anything to protect you. I was upset with you, furious at you for keeping the baby knowing damn well it was going to kill you. I couldn't stand the thought of losing you." I confessed.
My sister had tears in her eyes. "I love you, Piper." She told me. I smiled and a few tears fell from my eyes and I gingerly brought my sister into a hug.
