Chapter 9

My dad yanked on my ear all the way from the driveway to my bedroom. He said things like "grounded", "punished", and other things that I really couldn't comprehend.

"Now son, I never thought you would do this. Do you care to explain yourself?"
"I mean, I said it happened so fast, and I didn't do really any damage, but she kissed me first."
"Oh we're playing firsts."
"No... " I was silent. "Just bring on the punishment."
"What happened to you Taylor?"
"I don't know, I guess her."
"Oh a lover's boy?"

He walked out rubbing his forehead making it raw. He slammed the door then opened it back up. He whispered:

"Just don't get to serious okay?"
"Yessir."

I guess by serious, he meant the normal health class puppet show. I definitely didn't want that.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

It was my phone, and I set this loud, siren for Clark.

"Hello? Clark? Whatcha need?"
"Oh I was wondering a favor."
"What that's it no hello back?"
"Sorry my mistake. Hello?" There was sarcasm in his voice.
"That's more like it. Now what was that favor you needed."
"I need advice on girls."
"Is it about Rebecca? Why? Are you going to break up with her? Please no! You were such a great couple!"
"Woah. Slow down hotshot. I wasn't going to dump her. I was wanting to know how she would want for someone to ask her to prom."
"Oh, good. Isn't prom 11th grade to 12th grade?"
"No it's all grades in high because we don't have a lot of people in larksville city schools."
"Oh well I've gotta hit the bed, so can we talk about this tomorrow?"
"Yea sure, so how'd summer go?"
"Good. So first day of high school tomorrow right?"
"Yep. It only seemed like yesterday that we started 8th grade. I hope we're in the same classes. What happened to open house?"
"They're just giving us the schedules like they did in middle school."
"Well that's weird."
"Well seriously I need to go to bed. I still have dirt in my pants from running safe."
"Okay that's way to much information."
"Bye."

I slammed my phone down on my carpet. It bounced and knocked over my book bag. A note fell out from the water bottle sack.
It read:
May 23rd 2014

Hey this is Autumn. I'm guessing you won't pay attention to this note, but I just wanted to say I've had a great year with you. Can't wait for the game tomorrow. I can tell you can bring home the title as champions. I need to also tell you something.

I knew what that something was and I'm so glad she didn't forget to tell me. I put the note down in my night drawer.
I flipped the blanket over and stuck my body in feet first. I propped my head under my hands the way I did with Autumn.

-----------------------------------------------------

I woke up with the alarm, six straight on the dot. I get up slowly attempting to make my bed but knowing I'll have to remake it later. I open my closet door debating on what to wear. I pick out some jean shorts and a red tee shirt, then I fix my hair in the mirror pulling my hair to one side. After that I grab my tooth brush and brush my teeth for a a long as I have time.
I walk into the kitchen grabbing my shoes that I left there yesterday. They're my newest tennis shoes, but I don't think it fits the matter of jeans and red.

"Morning son. Did you have a chance to think about what I said to you last night?"
"Yeah sure did."
"Good, now is she going to the same high school?"

We headed out the door as I grabbed my baseball bag and my book bag.

"Yeah she is. I'm thinking about asking her to the 9th grade prom."
"Well good for you but, I'm serious."
"I know."

I got out of the car and pulled my bags out to where they were dragging the ground.
All of a sudden I'm shaken.

"Taylor bro! We've missed you! Ready to start another season?"

It was Smith.

"Smith? Hey! Clark, and Clide! Wait where's Aaron?"
"What I thought we told you? Aaron moved schools."
"Oh so who's going to be the team captain?"
"We've been thinking and we've also talked with the coach about you."
"Really me?" Joy filled my dark eyes.

We headed to the office to pick up our schedules. Mine read:

First- Mrs. Tanner (advanced math)

Second- Mr. Rubin (advanced English)

Third- Mrs. Colt (advanced physical science)

Fourth- Mr. Swizzle (physical education)

Fifth- Mr. Flores (drama)

Sixth- Dr. David (advanced social study)

"Guys looks like we're not in the same classes." Said Clide.
"Hey but what if we have it with our babes?"
"Yea, but you guys have them. Me and Clide don't." Said smith.
"Just ask Ally. The whole school knows she likes you so she won't turn you down."
"Yea okay." He ruffled my hair to where I had a middle part.
"Man, you just messed up my hair."
"Was it for Autumn?" He did kissy lips.
"What if it was? And you ruined it. Let it just sink in."
"I'm petrified." He moved his body as if to say he was melting.
