I woke up at 7 the next morning, just to catch Minhyuk before he went to class.
When I say I woke up before Minhyuk went to class, it means I woke up 10 minutes before Minhyuk had to leave his dorm (he usually leaves 15 minutes before class and his class started at 7:30 this morning), which gave me 15 minutes to run up the stairs (because the elevators were all full), through the halls, and all the way to Minhyuk's room.
7:08
I leaped for the door and banged on it as hard as I could.
After attempting to knock three times, a very angry Taeyang (who was most likely hungover) opened his door and scolded me for being so loud, then proceeded to tell me Chanyeol didn't come home last night and he heard Minhyuk already left, to which I apologised, thanked, then sprinted down the stairs and to Minhyuk's classroom.
7:13
After finally making it out of the dorm building, I had to make my way to the Art rooms.
All the way on the other side of the campus.
Will I make it in time?
Let's see if those hours of gym actually paid off.
7:20
Just before I got to the Art rooms, I tripped on my own shoelace and scraped my knee, so every time I walk I feel horrid pain.
But I have to get to Minhyuk.
"Minhyuk!" I called from a distance, watching someone from afar whip their head around, glance at me, and then continue what they were doing.
"Minhyuk!" I called again, getting closer to the boy who held his art book close to him. "Min... I'm so sorry."
"For what?" Minhyuk mumbled, refusing to look me in the eyes as I approached him.
"Yesterday, I was supposed to go to the party... but I had a paper due midnight and then I forgot about it until Jackson told me-"
"Jackson?" Minhyuk questioned, and I nodded.
"Yeah, we finished the paper together, and then we had dinner ... I completely forgot."
"I tried to find you the entire time, I was worried about you! I can't believe-!" Minhyuk fumed, but his anger soon turned into a twisted sadness... almost sadistic. "You know what? It's okay. It's not the first time you've prioritised anything over me... let alone Jackson."
"Minhyuk it's not like that! It was my paper-"
"You couldn't tell me you were going to be busy with it before I went to the party?"
"I didn't think of that-""Because you're stupid, Mark. You think of yourself before others, it's always been like that! In Korea you stopped talking to us, you said it was because of Jackson but if you really cared, Jackson wouldn't be in the way of our friendship! Even now, you prefer to go on dates with Jackson than a movie night with your best friends, even though you went on a date the day before."
Minhyuk's words always seem to frustrate me.
"Stop trying to control me! I don't have to spend all my time with you! Frankly, I'd rather spend time with Jackson than you any day. Jackson cares for me... and what do you do? Sit around and sulk because I didn't come with you to a stupid party!"
"It's not just the party! I have anxiety Mark, I cannot physically function unless I have a safety net... you were my safety net!"
"Well I'm sorry," I said, my words dripping with sarcasm. "It's not my fault you're messed up in the head."
I wish I didn't say that.
"You're right. I am messed up in the head." Minhyuk half-smiled, "I have to go now, thanks for those wise words."
Before I could even say anything more, he turned his back and entered his classroom.
It's not my fault he's sensitive.
-------
The next two weeks were filled with long classes, endless notes and lots of communication with Jackson.
Hardly any from the others.
I don't care. This way I get to spend more time with Jackson.
Something I took for granted.
"Mark, are you still coming with us?" Wonho called out to me, quite out of the blue.
I was just innocently purchasing some supplies from the store close by, and Hoseok approached me with his arms full of ramen and chocolate.
"Excuse me?"
"To Minhyuk's parents house for his birthday. Are you coming?"
"Oh right," I smiled, although I had completely forgotten all about it, "I've got things to do so I can't."
"You promised."
"Well, looks like I broke it. Sorry," I sassed, and Hoseok scoffed.
"Unbelievable. You are unbelievable."
"I have to go. Goodbye Hoseok, have fun with Minhyuk," I dismissed, pushing past him and purchasing my items before quickly leaving the store and to my dorm.Where Jackson and Jinyoung were playing Xbox together.
They really do everything together.
---------
"So Minhyuk's birthday, and you decided to go?" Jackson asked me, and I nodded.
"It's a waste of time anyway."
"Where does his parents live?" Jinyoung questioned from his bed.
"I can't remember, but it's quite a long way away, a few hours at least," I replied from my bed, Jackson sprawled out next to me.
"Why don't we go too? All five of us can fit in one car, we can stay in a Hotel nearby. I think it would be nice," Jinyoung suggested, and I shook my head.
"No, I don't really think it's worth-"
"It's his birthday Mark-"
"No, Jackson. I don't want to go. I dont care if it's his birthday or not."
"If you say so," Jinyoung shrugged.
"Alright, we won't go. But while I have your attention, I've booked the flights to and from Korea, it's settled. We are all going," Jackson stated with a huge smile on his face and Jinyoung mirrored that smile."
"I can't wait to see Jaebum... and Youngjae... I wonder how Yugyeom and Bambam are going." Jinyoung thought out loud.It was at that moment I realised how much Jinyoung and Jackson were homesick.
"I know, I hope they all haven't killed each other," Jackson joked, and Jinyoung laughed.
"I can't wait... thank you for inviting me." Jinyoung thanked sincerely and then continued to pay attention to his phone.I couldn't help but feel uneasy. There was something within me that twisted my stomach and sent chills down my spine.
Something is wrong.
