Chapter 12

Felix's POV
Today is the BBQ day. I am really nervous to meet Sam's family, knowing what their reaction will be when they see me, but I'm also glad I'll be with Raven, my girlfriend. I will never get used to saying that, it still feels like some mad dream, all of it. From being able to do magic, to having 3 friends I never would have talked to, to having an awesome girlfriend who is also a vampire and a witch. Wow.
After texting Raven and having a shower, I get dressed into simple black jeans and vans, with a black and white Bauhaus band tee and a black hoodie. I put on my black studded fingerless gloves and put my black shoulder bag over my shoulder. It contains my phone, my earphones, my book of shadows, a felt tip pen, and 35 cents. I start walking to Sam's house. When I'm about halfway there, I swear it suddenly gets colder. I shrug it off.
I finally get to Sam's house, where Jake and Andy are already there. It's not hard for Jake, him and Sam have been best mates for a long time now. It's not any harder for Andy either. His dad ands Sam's dad have known each other for a while now and Andy is one of those people who won't shut up even underwater. He seems to get along great with Sam's brothers. I take a deep breath, here we go.
I stop suddenly when I hear a twig snap in the bushes beside me. There, Raven is standing watching our friends and Sam's family like a hawk. She is wearing ripped black skinny jeans, knee high boots, a black hoodie, and a Black Veil Brides tee, her favourite band. Her hair, now black with purple highlights, is out with her side fringe covering one eye. She has purple lipstick and grey eye shadow on, her fingernails painted a glittery black. She also has a black studded shoulder bag, red fishnet fingerless gloves, a chocker with a cross, a silver snake bracelet and her daylight ring. She looks absolutely gorgeous.
"Raven." I whisper, walking up to her.
"Felix!" She's taken by surprise. "Hey."
"Hi." I reply. "What's wrong?"
She shakes her head. "Nothing, it's just... Well, I'm scared that I might lose it and I'll, I'll... You know."
I nod. She means bite someone. "Look, I'll be here and whenever you think your gonna lose it, hold on to my hand as tight as you can. Look into my eyes and I promise it'll be okay, yeah?"
She smiles, "Yeah."
"I will always be here for you Raven. Forever. Anytime you need me, any place. If your lost, scared, sad or angry, I'll never leave your side. Now, let's go. I'm starving."
She kisses me and we go to greet Sam and the others.
When Sam sees us, he introduces us to his parents. "Mum, dad." He says. "This is Felix Ferne and Raven... Um... Smith."
Haha, I think, Raven Smith. That'll be the day. Sam's parents hesitate, then shake our hands. "Nice to meet you." They say.
"Oh, no, really. The pleasure is all mine Mr and Mrs Conte. Thank you very much for having us, we are absolutely delighted." Raven says politely, smiling.
Just like that, she wins them over. I don't know how she does it, but even when she looks like a rebelliously evil gothic teenager, when she speaks in that old fashioned English accent of hers, she could be the devil and everyone would love her. She has got to teach me how to do that.
We all sit down at the table and start having lunch.
"So, where are you from Raven?" Sam's mum asks her eating some peas.
"Well, my mother was from England, my father was from Transylvania." She replies while scooping up a spoonful of mash potato and placing it in her mouth with an extended amount of table manners.
"Ah, yes. I did recognise that accent. British. Very nice, and Transylvanian. Interesting." Sam's dad says approvingly. "You know, there is a movie night at the lake tonight, horror movie at midnight with fireworks, you and your folks should really come. It'll be fun."
"Oh, umm." Raven explains. "Actually sir, I'm just here with my uncle Ivan."
"Oh, what happened to your parents?" Sam's mum inquires.
"Mum!" Sam says urgently. "Don't ask her that!"
"No, no, it's okay." Raven confirms. "They're not dead. In fact, my younger brother Vlad and my father are coming to stay with me for a while, they are coming tomorrow."
"Oh, well that's nice." Sam's dad smiles. "I'll look forward to meeting them."

When lunch is finished, me, Raven, Sam, Jake and Andy go down to the lake. There, I see 2 girls waiting for us, smiling. Mia and Ellen. We walk up to them and Sam hugs Mia, while Andy hugs Ellen and Jake stands there grinning. I grip Ravens tightly and pull her closer. She seems to understand.
"Felix..." Ellen says in a small voice. "Hi."
I look at the grass. "Hello." Raven says. "I'm Raven, Felix's girlfriend. And you are?"
"Oh, um I'm Ellen." She replies. She's wearing red flat shoes and a green, white and purple checkered dress. Her brown straight hair is in a plait over her shoulder. She's gotten rid of the purple streaks. Mia walks up to us in a white and pink dress, with a brown braided belt and brown western style ankle boots. Her dark curly brown hair cascading over her shoulders.
"Come on!" She says. "Let's go!" The other boys are already in the lake, and Mia and Ellen change into their pink and green 2 piece swimmers and jump in with them.
"You going in?" I ask Raven, who is already done changing into her black 2 piece.
"Why not?" She replies as I change into my swimmers. "Race you?" I ask, knowing she can't use her powers in front of Mia and Ellen.
"On your marks, get set, go!" We run and jump into the lake, smiling like crazy people. I find myself thinking, the days that I've spent with Raven, have been by far, the best days of my life.
