Chapter 16

Raven's POV
"Jake!" I call down the stairs, when there is no response, I go to the window, the others follow. I open up the curtains and a small scream of pain is let out behind me. When I turn around, Vlad is surrounded in a thin layer of smoke, clutching his arm.
"Sorry!" I close the curtains once more.
"It's okay." Vlad shakes his head, "It's not your falt."
I nod. "Stay here, I'll go after him." I instruct the 4 boys. Sam and Andy nod, and Vlad reluctantly sits down.
"I'm coming with you." Felix says firmly.
"No," I shake my head. "You have to stay here."
Felix sighs. "Bring him back." He says, giving in. I nod, making my way to the door.
"And Raven," He calls, I spin around. "Come back safely."
"I promise." And then I close my eyes, dissolving into smoke.

When I reach the clearing in the Bremin forest, I see Jake. He is looking up at the sky and seems to be yelling at someone, or something. Then, he stops. He shakes like he is having a heart attack and turns to face me, eyes complete red.
"Oh no." I whisper to myself as Jake walks stiffly over to me.
"Raven." His voice echoes like it's been amplified 10 times.
"What are you waiting for?!" I scream, spreading my arms out wide. "Give it your best shot!"
Jake smilies in a very unlike Jake way. It's not him, I remind myself, it's Alice. I shiver at the very thought of that name.
"My dear!" Jake/Alice laughs. "I do not intend on killing you! Such power, it would be foolish to not consider you as an allie."
"What do you want from me?!" I question.
"I want you to join me." The demon smiles, "You could have such glory! Leave your stupid friends, they are weak. Think of the things we could achieve!"
I am stunned for a moment, could I really be what she says I could be? Maybe Alice isn't evil after all, just misunderstood.
As if reading my thoughts, Alice extends her hand to me. Should I take it? I slowly lift my arm. Why not? But then my thoughts turn to my friends, Andy and Sam and Jake, they are like family to me, and Vlad, he makes me feel so strong, like I could do anything. And Felix, he has shown me all that I can mean and be to someone, he swore that he'd protect me with his life if he had to. These people mean the world to me, and I could not possibly let them down.
Alice's smile disappears as I lower my arm. "Never." I say fiercely.
Alice screams and a red aura surrounds Jakes body, rising up to the sky in a tornado of light. For a moment, Alice's face is visible and she smiles wickedly as if she has a trick up her sleeve, which I'm sure she does. Then she dissolves with her red tornado leaving. Jake lying on the grass unconscious. I run over to him.
"Jake!" I scream when I'm at his side. "Come on! Don't you DARE leave me! Please..."
"Not yet I won't." Jake groans as he half opens his eyes. "Hello Raven. You been causing trouble?"
I smile and half laugh half sob as I slap his shoulder. "Don't you ever do that again Jake Riles! You hear me? Never!"
"I'll try not to." He gives me a weak smile then coughs.
"Come on." I say, lifting him up and placing his arm over my shoulder to steady him. "Let's get you healed up."
I concentrate hard and in a moment we are at the front door to my place once more.
