(y/e/c) = your eye color
You always thought it was strange that you had two different colored eyes. Your parents both had the same color in each eye, so why didn't you? Why were you different? You asked your mother this question many times in your younger years of life, but she always said she'd explain when you were older.
'Older' came around when you were five years old. You knew how to pester someone until you got an answer, and that's exactly what you did. She finally gave up and sat you down.
"This eye-" she pointed to your right eye. "Is your actual eye color. (Y/e/c)." You nodded. "Your other eye is the color of someone you are destined to end up with."
She saw your confused expression. "When you get older, you'll find someone that you will be with for the rest of your life." She saw that you understood, and carried on: "I used to have a brown eye and a green eye. When I met Daddy, my green eye turned brown. The same happened to daddy, except his brown eye turned green."
"Oh!" you exclaimed. "I get it! I didn't know you and Daddy were like me before you met." She giggled and nodded. Then, you went back to coloring, satisfied with this new knowledge.
You always imagined how you would meet the one. You pictured being in a small café, somewhere in your twenties. He would waltz in, charm you with his humor and good looks, and he would buy you a coffee. You imagined talking for hours and growing old together. The idea of being with someone for your entire life fascinated you. Sometimes, it was the only reason you stayed alive. You couldn't deprive someone else of that experience, and knowing that someone was waiting for you was uplifting.
You thought about this as you got ready for school, lazily running a brush through your messy hair. You'd never had a boyfriend because you simply didn't want to go through the trouble of dating someone who wasn't going to make the cut. You'd think everyone would feel the same, yet you still saw couples at school, and in town, with heterochromia. It was January of your sophomore year in high school, that point of the year where you lost the motivation to do your best in school. You still tried hard, but something was gone.
You put on your uniform and slipped into the bathroom to brush your teeth. The bright lights made you squint. You stepped back out, preferring the natural light seeping in through the curtains. You grabbed your bag, jogging down the stairs and into the kitchen. You grabbed your coat off the hook and hastily put it on, wrapping a scarf around your neck. As you opened the door, you hollered a goodbye to your mom.
Walking down the pavement in the cold, your buried your face into your scarf. That only lasted a minute before you started eating your granola bar. You walked down the long stretch between two wooden fences until you reached the end and stepped out into the open. Next thing you knew, you were on the pavement, hit by a strong force. You dropped the granola to land on your hands. Your hip still hit the ground, and you could feel a bruise forming.
"O-oh my gosh! I'm so so sorry."
You looked up from your scraped palms to see a boy wearing the same uniform as you. He got off his bicycle, leaning it on a fence. He rushed to your side and helped you up.
"I really am sorry, I was too close to stop or swerve when you stepped out."
You waved him off. "No, no, it's okay. But. . . you owe me another granola," you joked, showing him a slight smile.
You looked into his eyes, and noticed that one was fading to become blue, like his other eye. Your jaw nearly dropped. The boy wore a smiliar expression. Your face turned red and you cleared your throat as he forced his eyes away from you.
