(A couple weeks later)

Since you and Jack were actually dating, he joined you and Charlie for "family outings" AKA mundane tasks that you were scared to do alone, even if your mother came with you. Charlie seemed happier than ever and you sure as hell did too. Every so often a Jack would show you a picture that had been captured by someone while they were out in public. You'd roll your eyes and offer an amused huff, but you assured him that you didn't mind. It helped that they were all pretty flattering angles, even the slightly blurry ones.

Jack met you at your mom's house, saying a sweet hello to her as he entered. He softly knocked on the opened bathroom door to get your attention. You glanced at him via the mirror as you tied your hair up in an unintentionally messy bun. The bruise on your face was barely visible anymore, and you couldn't be bothered to put on makeup to go get groceries. You grabbed his hand as you exit the bathroom, walking down the hallway to the living room. Charlie was on the floor playing with a toy police car. She looked up at you with a grin on her face. She stood up and ran around the coffee table, making car noises as she held the car up beside her. "Coming to save Mommy!" she shouted, putting the car down on the floor and she unexpectedly jumped up into your arms. You quickly let go of Jack's hand to catch her. She wrapped her arms around you in a big hug and yelled "See! I save you!"

You didn't know whether to be worried or happy. You chuckled and gave her a kiss before setting her back on the ground. "Okay, play with Nana 'til we get back." She nodded and took the toy car over to your mom. You and Jack waved goodbye before leaving.

You walked down the pavement with your hand in Jack's coat pocket, fingers intertwined. You both decided to walk all the way because it wasn't all that far, and you hadn't been outside all day.

At the store, Jack followed you with a shopping basket. You both walked around, collecting food that would last maybe a week, and some cleaning supplies. After checking out, you both had two light bags to carry. While walking home, Jack noticed someone obviously in a hurry to get somewhere. You were looking down at your feet and didn't notice him running in your direction. Jack grabbed your arm and pulled you in front of him, glaring at the man who rushed by. He let go and you held your arm in pain as you returned beside him.

"Oh, sorry, did I grab your arm too hard?" Jack asked, scanning your face.

"No, no, it's okay. I just have a bruise there."

His eyebrows furrowed slightly as you both continued walking. "Like a accident bruise, or from. . ." Jack couldn't bring himself to finish his question.

"Yeah, from him," you sighed.

"That guy's a douche. As long as I'm around, you won't ever have to worry about him again," he assured you. You looked up at him. "And I'm not going anywhere anytime soon," he said with a smile. He pressed a kiss to your temple, careful not to touch the bruise on your cheek either.

Jack hung around your mom's house and played with Charlie as you put away groceries and your mom went to take a shower. It was almost Charlie's nap time, and you could tell she was getting tired. When you were finished with your task, you went over to them and picked up Charlie, telling her it was nap time. She started crying, reaching out for Jack.

You looked at him with pleading eyes, mentally asking him for help. He stood up and followed you to your room, Charlie calming down a bit. You set her down on the bed, and you and Jack laid on either side of her. When she fell asleep, you cautiously got up. After you successfully got off without waking her up, you motioned for Jack to follow you.
