Something was. . . off, to say the least. You've seen Jack stressed, you've seen him upset, but this was just different, somehow. It started a few days ago. Jack was a little distant and quick to get irritated. This even slipped through in his videos when he would fail a level enough. It only got worse from there. The first time it really struck you as odd was when you caught a glimpse of him playing a game. Sometimes you would watch for a minute, then get back to whatever you were doing.
It seemed like he didn't notice you this time. When he had a choice to kill a character or save them, he immediately chose to kill them. You thought, well maybe it was a horrible character. He wasn't even commentating on it, though. He didn't even blink as the bullet went through the character's chest and he began to cough up blood. The other characters in the game we're visibly distraught, and it was hard for you to not be the same.
At night, even if it was late and he was tired, even if you were asleep, Jack would kiss you good night. Sometimes he would cuddle you if you were awake, and he knew you wouldn't be upset if he woke you up. In fact, he'd done it before, albeit not very often. If he was particularly upset, or you both had argued before you fell asleep, he would wake you up and pull you to his chest. Sometimes you two would say a few words, sometimes you'd just hold each other.
He didn't kiss you good night the past two days. In fact, the only time you'd kissed that week was when you gave him pecks as you passed by him throughout the day. You figured that maybe he didn't want to talk about whatever was upsetting him, but if it was bothering him this much, you needed to talk to him about it.
You called out to him to tell him dinner was ready. You heard his footsteps descending the stairs soon after. You noticed the bags under his eyes as his fixed his plate. You came up beside him and rested your hand on his lower back, leaning slightly into his field of vision.
"Hey babe, you look tired," you gently noted. His expression didn't change in the slightest as he let out a grunt. You would leave it alone for now, but it would be brought back up when the evening turned to night.
Setting your plate at the table, you noticed Jack heading towards the couch. This wasn't particularly strange, but he'd usually eat wherever you were.
"Jack," you called. He stopped to look at you. You blushed for the first time in a while, growing so comfortable around him that you rarely got embarrassed anymore. "Uh- Sit with me, please?"
He hesitated before coming to the table and sitting across from you. This actually was strange for him. He always sat beside you when you ate together because he knew it made you uncomfortable to feel like someone was watching you eat. But that's what he did. He sat across from you and when he wasn't staring at his plate, he was staring at you. Even his staring felt abnormal. It usually felt warm, like you knew he was just looking at you because he loves you and thinks you're drop-dead gorgeous. Now it felt. . . probing, uncomfortable. Like staring at a strange creature in a zoo enclosure.
You uncomfortably finished your food, but much was left on Jack's plate. He didn't look like he had any intention to finish it.
"Babe, are you feeling ill?" you asked. His eyes narrowed slightly and he shook his head. "Is something bothering you?" you asked with a softer tone.
"No." His cold response took you by surprise. Nonetheless, you reached out to hold his hand that was resting on the table.
"Please, Jack. I know something's up. You know you can tell me anything." He snatched his hand away, making you lean back into your seat with your eyes wide. You helplessly watched as he put his plate by the sink and stormed past you. You managed to catch his wrist. "Did I do something?" you frantically asked, not knowing why he was so worked up. You felt his hand curl into a fist.
