CHAPTER TEN
I held myself standing in front of the long mirror. Turning a few angles, checking again the black silk dress that I was wearing. Jayden was invited to a charity ball. Fall said that it would be a great opportunity to introduce us being back together. I wondered how much of those advice meant well for us or was it just a calculated plan for Jayden's reputation.
Ever since morning, the hair stylist and makeover artist were already here preparing us for the event.
"I think we can just leave it as it is" Jayden coughed. I turned around, noticing the charming guy in his black suit. He was always in that aura, schmoozing with overwhelming charisma. He walked over, circling his hand around my waist. I gasped, startled by that sudden intimacy.
His eyes scanned me from top to toe. It was as if he was groping me with just his eyes. I turned away, blushed at that attention dawned on me. "S-Stop it..."
Jayden held my cheek, turning me to face him. His lips raised on both ends. That beautiful eyes showered absolute attention, "You look beautiful" I gulped, clenched my fist nervously as my eyes couldn't shy away.
He inhaled deeply, "After the event, I want you"
He had been showing this hunger of intimacy ever since I had moved back. It was something I couldn't adjust. After all, in our ten years marriage, Jayden had been this polite man who doesn't touch me in any way unless requested for the sake of the media. It would have stayed at just a few kisses on the cheek and circling around my waist while we took photos. It was just that, and nothing else.
And behind those scenes, Jayden and I lived like two roommates. We slept in different rooms and doesn't hang out in the same place most of our time. I usually hung out at home during my free time experimenting new dishes or just wasting my time away watching entertainment shows. As for Jayden, he would be usually out probably for his business or spending time with Anna. But he do made a point to return home every day, only it would be very late in the night.
I watched those eyes that were staring deep in mine. He held my chin as he leaned forward, closing my lips with his. I shut my eyes, feeling the embrace tightened around my waist as Jayden strike at me hungrily. The sudden gush of heat filled my face. My hands uncontrollably circled around his neck. Jayden then grabbed my cheek as he kissed even harder. He released his grip, panted heavily, "I should stop... before I ruined the dress."
I turned away, feeling embarrassed. My hand held the cheek that were blushing. I startled as I tried to gather myself, "I'll head down first." Without any hesitation, I struggled and walked downstairs to the living hall.
After we were both ready, Jayden and I set off to the charity event as scheduled in his arranged limousine. Many political officials, billionaires and celebrities attended the event as well. The host of the charity event was a very generous man who had done many charities in his life. To celebrate his seventy birthday, he had decided to auction his collections of art pieces that were worth millions of dollars each. The proceeds will be donated to the Saviour Foundation.
"He's a very charitable man"
Jayden's eyes narrowed, inferring my comment in a wrong way, "You like old men"
I could see the jealousy oozing from those pair of beautiful eyes. I nudged at his arm. "You're being ridiculous"
His lips leaned towards my ear as he nibbles. His husky voice stirred the butterflies in my stomach, "I am an old man, a hungry one"
I fidgeted away in instance, trying to stay composed. My cheek blushed at Jayden's action. Without any hesitation, I took the brochure laying on the table to browse through. It was quite a detailed illustration of the various art pieces that was put up for the auction. "Anything that caught your interest?"
Jayden laughed. His finger traced along my hands, "Yeah there is one, and it's not in the list" and he leaned over, giving me a quick peck on my cheek.
"Jayden!" I whispered, under my breath, "Everyone can see us..."
He did a slight nod, "Isn't this the reason why we are here?" and stretched out to grab the glass of red wine, sipping it away while the bidding event fades away like back ground noise.
I sat dazing in thoughts. It is still for the same reason, for his reputation. I turned my attention back at the man sitting beside. Did he show me all this affection for the media or for me?
He caught my glaring, putting down his wine glass, as he watched me closely, "You're always so quiet even in the past"
"I was scared to return home after you had left." His hand stroked gently on my head, "You had no idea how afraid I was to keep recalling the moment that you handed me the divorce paper"
Was the affection true to his heart? Did he just confess his feelings?
"Not possible"
Jayden's eyes lit up in satisfaction at my answer.
"Because..." I pinched his nose, "We are not married."
His face expression instantly looked disappointed. Jayden stared at me in displease, "I'm not joking"
"Well... I wasn't joking- "
Then he leaned forward, closing my lips with a kiss. I shut my eyes, enjoying the passion drowning me. Whether if anyone was looking, or if this was for the media, it doesn't really matter.
Jayden pulled back and continued, "Since you reminded me of that, we should get on with our wedding plans."
I gulped, still haven't got over that sudden kiss. My eyes blinked as I uttered, "I'm... not ready yet"
"You looked quite ready this few days behaving like my wife" Jayden smiled. "I have handpicked a few venues. Pick one of those or if you have something else in mind, let Anna arranged it for you."
Anna? I clenched my fist, feeling the tightness in my chest. "Do we... really have to do this?"
