CHAPTER TWENTY THREE

I laid on the sofa, curling with a cushion in my arms as I watched aimlessly at some entertainment show playing on the television. My brain was severely drained off after numerous of meetings that Emily had arranged for me to meet up with the directors. There were some really lengthy ones that I would sit in for hours to discuss many potential plans and hearing out their ideas of how they want Solevan Holding to be moving towards. In between, there were some that tried to touch on personal questions about me and Jayden.

Eyes turned to Jayden who was flipping through some fashion magazine in his hands, "It must be really hard on you maintaining the company for so many years" Anxiety swarm up as I started picturing the most negative possible outcome tomorrow of me being voted out.

Jayden patted on my lap, still wearing a very calm composure. "You will be fine."

I sat up, in folded arms. "I don't need any encouraging words right now. If I screw up, what is going to happen? All these hard work that you have put in for the past years is going to be handed to Roy."

He chuckled. My eyebrow frowned. That's not right.

I watched him attentively as I added, "You seemed too confident with the outcome."

Jayden did a quick glance on me before returning his attention on the magazine, "Of course."

"Why?"

He exhaled as he sat his magazine on the side and turned to me again, "Well, there is such saying of... good judgement comes from experience."

I shook my head, "You are not saying anything."

"Well, let just say you didn't make it and even the people that were on our side decided to vote for Roy." He took a pause and gave me an guilty grin, "I will just walk in and do the final vote to push you in as the Acting CEO."

I frowned before widening my eyes , "You... have just made me worked hard for nothing?!"

"I am just giving you some insurance policy for any accident that might occurred..." He stood up and put the magazine on the coffee table. I caught the edge of his pants as I stared at him, "You are not going anywhere." I am not done with you, Jayden!

He smiled, patted on my hand as he loosened the grip. "Don't worry. I won't come in too early to make your efforts worth it."

Just as I tried to get even with him, the doorbell rang. Lip pouted as I walked impatiently to the main door. Who the hell is interrupting me at this time?! I had already cleared all the meetings that I should and today is my rest day! I held the knob as I took a peep to see who was at the door. Anna? I frowned. Why is she here?

I gasped. Did she know that Jayden had been hiding at home?

Calm down Annie, let's see what she is up to. I held opened the door, leaving the metal grill locked. I folded my arms, eyeing at her in disgust.

Anna, as usual, smiled in her most superficial way ever. "Hi Annie, I am glad you are home. I couldn't reach you through your cell so I thought I would drop by and pay you a visit."

I raised my eyebrow, "What's your business?"

She continued grinned like a doll, "Aren't you going to invite me in?"

I smirked, "Why should I?"

"Well..." Anna coughed, "I thought it would be quite a conversation that I would like to have with you and you might not want too many people to know about it."

Keep it calm, Annie. She is just taunting you to do her bidding. I returned her with her signature superficial doll-like smile, "It would be best that everyone would know how much you love threatening others to do your bidding"

Anna gulped before continued, "Well then I thought you might want to hear me out loud and clear that Jayden called me to inform about the wedding that was cancelled."

Eyes narrowed. I almost forgotten that part about Jayden telling Anna in the midst of our fight before he went disappeared. Now it seemed we have a second variable to consider. "So, what is your business?" Still, I am not letting her in.

She eyed at me, "It puzzles me that you are applying as a nominee to be the Acting CEO of Solevan Holding when the wedding is called off. Of what kind of eligibility do you still hold since you are no longer his fiancée?"

News did get fast to this non-related individual. I wondered whose bed did she climb onto to know about such internal and confidential information of the company. Roy? Or one of those directors?

"Anna, I hope you understand that it's not your business to interfere the internal operation of Solevan Holdings." I continued, "Unless you are one of the major shareholders that is concern about how this would affect your investment, I suggest you stay out of matters."

She didn't compromise, as expected. "It's not my business but I thought that the directors would be concern about the nominees that they are considering for putting in such an important position. And especially Roy who should have a fair share of knowledge about the eligibility of his competitor, isn't it?"

Threats and more threats. I snorted, "Seriously, Anna. I am really sick and tired of your threats. Can you just cut the chase and come to the point?"

She stood dumbfounded. Her mouth opened and shut. Anna stared at me in disbelief, "You didn't really don't know how to take advice isn't it? I told you to not to marry Jayden and instead of doing so, you leaped ahead and want to step in as an Acting CEO of his company?"

I shut my eyes. This is so tiring. I stepped back and decided to just shut the door on her. Anna blocked me from doing so as she continued, "It seemed you don't really take warnings seriously."

I clenched my jaws, "First of all, you have stepped into private boundaries without an invitation. That makes you an intruder in this compound. Secondly, your current offensive and threatening behavior is giving me extreme discomfort. That's you committing an offence of invasion of privacy. If you are not intending to leave any moment right now, I held the rights to call the cops and put you behind bars. Choose your fate, Anna."

"Fine. Then don't cry over spilled milk when bad things come looking for you. You will regret."

I smirked, "You know what Anna? Ever since I had to put myself in this position to help Jayden for his empire, I realized everything else doesn't matter including you. So be my guest." And I closed the door on her.

I let out a sigh. It was hard enough to go through those meetings with the directors. And now I still have to deal with a crazy woman. Just then, my phone in the pocket vibrated. I took it out and gave a quick look. It was a call from my brother.

As soon as I answered, my brother exclaimed with much anxiety. "Annie! Mom's just got knocked down! What should I do?"

I widened in astonishment as I uttered, "C-Call... the ambulance! Where are you 'all?"

He struggled, "I... We... are outside the house. She was on her way back from marketing then... some biker drove in and knocked her down."

I stood froze as Anna's words rang me;You will regret. I shook my head as I blinked profusely, "Get mom the ambulance! I will be on my way!"

The call ended. I knelt down, shivering. Beads of tears dwelling at the edge of my eyes as I struggled to breathe. Jayden had come down to the living room. He looked at me in confused, "What happened?"

"Mom..."

A notification appeared on my phone screen.
