DEALING WITH SOLEVAN

CHAPTER NINETEEN
My eyes turned to the immigration officer that was checking on the passengers' boarding pass as he let them through. If I were to turn away now, will I be able to seize the chance again to live afresh as Annie Swift?
Holding on the boarding pass in my grip, I felt the heavy responsibility lied upon my shoulder. It was a choice between my love and my life. Just how was I going to choose?
But if I were to walk away, knowing that Jayden was missing, would I be able to move on at ease? I let out a sigh. I couldn't. I turned to Melissa. She was nervous about how I choose. I knew the answer she was waiting. But was it the right choice for me?
"Let's get some coffee" I held her hands as my lips lifted on both sides.
Her eyes brightened, wearing a wide smile. My hand held hers as we headed for the cafeteria nearby. We took a small round table right at the corner for some privacy. Melissa went to the counter to make the orders. One of the servants had went ahead to process the paperwork for retrieving my luggage that was previously sent for loading up the flight.
After moments later, Melissa had returned with a tray of our drinks.
"Thanks."
"I am glad that you decided to stay"
I smirked, "There is no way I can leave, knowing that he is missing." Did something bad happen to Jayden? Is he somewhere, waiting for us to find him?
"But still I am glad that you stayed" She felt a big relief, "Since you are not going anywhere, there are some things that we need to work on"
Of course. "I will head back to the apartment to find clues that might be helpful."
She shook her head, "There is already a team working on it. What I am saying is something else that requires your attention"
I frowned, unable to decipher, "Why? Isn't now the most important thing being to find Jayden?"
If Jayden was safe and sound, he would have stay contacted long ago. As much as I don't wish to think that something bad has happened to him, it would most likely be. Jayden had his Solevan Holdings that he cared dearly. He wouldn't just go away without keeping in contact.
"Of course, it is", Melissa patted on my hand as she explained, "There is already a team working on the possible clues to find Jayden. But besides that, the other pressing issue was no one is managing the Solevan Holdings"
"Obviously, Mel. There is no one managing it since he is missing. We have to- "I stopped, "Why... is that requiring my attention?"
Melissa explained, "When Fall told me about the news that Jayden is missing, she mentioned about the chaos that was going on in the company. Although news of him being missing was suppressed from being known to the public, the management team of Solevan Holdings by now had already knew about it."
She then added, "And the Board of Directors had suggested to vote for a new CEO replacing Jayden"
I agreed, "The company still have to run as usual. It would make sense to have someone replacing Jayden for now."
Melissa let out a sigh, "Majority of them believed that the current CFO, Roy, was the most suitable candidate to take up the role. The results of the votes would highly be in his favor."
"Well, he is the chief finance officer of the company. He had been handling the finance of Solevan Holdings for so many years. I am sure the company would be doing fine under his care."
She then emphasized, "But Roy doesn't have the intention to be an 'Acting CEO'. He wants it permanent"
My eyes widened. Permanent? "Then what will happen after Jayden is back?"
"He will not be the CEO anymore"
"So, Jayden's position in the company is at stake? If he is not coming back any time soon, he will lose the company for good"
"Yes", She looked at me with pleading eyes, "And you're our only hope to stall for time before Jayden returns."
I was confused. "But how?"
She smiled "If you stepped in as the Acting CEO-"
"No!"
"Why not?"
I uttered, "Because... I am not a Solevan."
"Easy. We can make you my god-sister, and you will be a Solevan."
I argued, "Then you can also have stepped in as the Acting CEO. It doesn't have to be me"
"It had been a common practice for CEOs to delegate their duties temporary to the wife during their absence. If you step in, the management team will know that there won't be much changes happened to the company. Since, they didn't have much issues with how Jayden had run the company. They will be more willing to accept this temporary arrangement."
I frowned, "But, I am no longer Mrs. Solevan. And he had cancelled the wedding. So, I am not even his fiancée."
She whispered, "Nobody knew that he had cancelled the wedding, not even Fall. So, you are still his fiancée"
"This is so risky, Mel"
"If you don't risk anything, you risk even more"
I inhaled deeply, "But I had never done this before. I will ruin his company."
Melissa argued, "There's always a first time for everyone. Besides, you had managed a few brand labels under the Solevan Holdings before"
I raised my eyebrow, "Mel, that's just a few brand labels! We are now talking about the entire Solevan Holdings that manages thousands of properties, companies and shares. It is not as easy as it seems"
She smiled, "Step one to manage a company is to understand the structure. You have already done that"
I looked at her with a stern look "Mel, this is not a joke"
"Or you would rather have someone take over the company? He started this company from scratch. Every piece of it was his hard work. Do you really want to see him lose all of that?"
She was right. It would be devastating if the company Jayden had built was now in the hands of others.
"Then what do you need me to do now?"
Melissa smiled, "I will get Emily and Fall to run it through for you."
