DEALING WITH SOLEVAN

CHAPTER TWENTY ONE

Taking off my white heels, I rested my tiring feet on the marble floor. Eyes gazed up as I searched for that man I had been missing the whole day. Jayden was sitting on the sofa watching some television programs. I held a smile across my face as I watched him. He was still looking a little bit pale, but was getting better. Jayden had spent the past few days lying on the bed, suffering from high fevers due to his injuries. And now, his fever had finally subsided and he was able to come down to the living room.

Jayden turned around, noticing me as his lips raised on both ends, "Come here"

I held my tote bag with a bunch of files in my other grip, as I walked over to his side. Placing all those files and my tote bag on the coffee table, I crushed myself on the soft texture of our sofa. I sat besides, gazing at him, "How's your injury?"

"Better" Then he added, "I had called the takeaway. It should be arriving anytime soon."

My eyes shut, as I leaned against the sofa. The soft texture gave a little comfort. It had been an overwhelming day spent in his office. Fall and Emily had briefed me through almost everything from the various projects that the Solevan Holdings were working on to the hierarchy of the company. I could feel my brain had overworked just merely downloading all of that information.

Finger drawing circles on his sleeve as I frowned, "You're really not going to tell them about your return?"

Jayden then turned to me as his fingers brushed my hair. His eyes softened, "How was it at work?"

I leaned back on the sofa. My head faced the ceiling, "Emily had run me through on almost all of the projects that the company was working on. And Fall had covered me on the political situation"

The information was ginormous to digest. I couldn't believe Jayden had been handling those for so many years without battling an eye. I stared at him in awe, "How did you able to manage all of this? Everyone was like strangling my neck for answers."

Jayden laughed. "Now you know"

"I really can't do this" I looked at him with pleading eyes, "Can you just take it back?"

He patted on my hands, "Tell me more about the political situation"

I let out a soft sigh, "Out of the nine members of the Board of Directors, two of them have shown clear interest to support Roy."

Jayden commented, "That must be Roy's father-in-law and their long-term friend, Grace"

I continued, "But luckily, your uncle and the Don's Brothers are on our side"

"Yeah, Steven Don and Henry Don are both long-term friends of the Solevan family." Then he asked, "So, when's the voting going to happen?"

"In a week's time" I bit my lips, "Fall had arranged tomorrow for me to be officially introduced to the Board of Directors as a potential candidate for the Acting CEO in your absence."

"Has Fall arranged you to meet up the remaining four members?"

My dreaded eyes stared at him, "Yes, I am supposed to studied the materials Emily briefed me to impress them."

Then he stopped asking. I watched him in astonishment. That's it? He's not going to say anything else? I can't do this. This was too difficult for me to handle. Roy and his father-in-law were seen having dinners with these four members lately. If they manage to convince all of them to their side, we will lose this. I folded my arms, still waiting for him to say something. But still, Jayden remained in silence.

I pulled his shirt, "You're not going to say anything?"

Jayden raised his eyebrow, "About what?"

"The remaining four members are still of a neutral stand. Nothing has been affirmed by them as of now. And Roy might get them on his side. He has been meeting them outside working hours for dinners"

He replied, "You will be fine with Fall's arrangement."

I watched him; the man that I love, even in his pajamas was oozing with so much of confidence.

Before today, I never understood what office politics really meant. There were so much of variables to consider. And all of these variables could never be calculated in precise like accounting figures. Every decision that the management made could affect the company like a butterfly effect.

I couldn't control my curiosity but to asked, "How are you so sure?"

Jayden smiled, "We already had people that would assure three votes, so all we need was just another two more votes to make you go through."

I emphasized, "But out of the four members, Francis and Wesley had been somewhat suppressed of their suggestion during your reign. If they know they can vote for a new change that might respect them, they might decide to vote for Roy."

"Of course,", He pinched my cheek, "It's human nature to choose what benefits them"

I widened my eyes at his unbelievable calm composure, "That would secure Roy another two votes!"

Jayden replied, "You still have the two bankers to work on. They will put their votes on whoever can assure stability and continuous growing profits in the company."

"But..."

He pointed at the chunk of big files sitting beside me, "You'll be fine after you studied those materials"

I winced, "Why can't you just return back? Everything will be so much easier."

"Roy is an opportunist. He wouldn't let this chance slip away so easily"

"But you are the CEO" I don't understand.

"Appointed CEO" Jayden corrected me, "If I were to return now, Roy would request the Board of Director to remove me from the position. And they have very valid reasons to do so since I was absent for three weeks without anyone knowing where I went."

"But you were injured! How can it be your fault?!"

He looked at me, "I did leave without informing anyone."

"Then when are you planning to return back to the company?"

"After I got hold of more evidence to whom wanted me dead." He held his eyes on me, "Before that happens, you are my only chance to return."
