Cain

Cain sat quietly along a window sill as his long limb crossed along the other, his hand holding a book while the other holding up his chin. The scene looked as though it belonged in a painting.

Jude, Sienna and Benno watched from a distance. Although the novel was one of Cain's favourites, Jude could tell that the boy was not concentrating at any of words on the page.

"I wouldn't dare to disrupt him while he's reading." Benno whispered.

"He's not." Sienna stated as a matter of fact. Benno watched anxiously as Jude walked up to Cain and closed the book in his hand with a thud.

"I was reading that you know." Cain simply said.

"You and I both know that you weren't." Sienna replied as she grabbed the book and read the cover.

Jude and Cain stared at each other while coming to an understanding: Jude and Sienna know Cain too well, they did grow up with each other after all.

"Did you forget that we're meant to be investigating?" Jude asked.

"How can I, when you remind me everyday." Cain got up, snatched the book back off Sienna then headed to his bookshelf.

"The quicker we find your bride, the quicker we get to go home." Sienna shrugged.

"What are you thinking so hard about?" Jude asked.

Cain pulled out a classic novel and pointed it to the group. "Do you think Ezra would like this book?"

"There's your answer." Sienna sighed while Jude's expression darkened.

"Who cares about what he thinks." Benno sneered.

Cain got up and gave them an intense stare. Benno instinctively lowered their gazes while Jude looked at Cain with a hint of anger.

"You guys go ahead of me. I'm gonna go talk to mum." Before anyone could say anything Cain was already out the door.

"Why does Cain even give a damn about that kid. Maybe I should teach him a lesson."

"Then what? Cain will probably beat you up." Sienna sighed. "It seems to me that all he gives a shit about these days is Ezra. Not that I don't understand why but..."

Jude let out an agitated huff before heading out the door with the two following close behind him.

Cain walked around the house and found Eva in his fathers office quietly reading something. She looked up at him and smiled.

"Something wrong, Cain?"

"Wrong? I don't think so."

"I saw Jude a second ago and he didn't seem in a jolly mood."

"What do you expect? Its Jude. He's always annoyed about something." Cain sat down lazily on the couch across his mother.

"Or someone?"

Cain caught her gaze. "What did I do?"

"Ask yourself that. Not me."

"I've done nothing wrong. Except..."

"Except?"

Cain felt a little nervous talking about Ezra to his mother, only because he didn't want her to misunderstand him.

"There's this boy at school. But he's a witch."

"A male witch? That's quite rare. Your father did mention something about remains of jinx's in the forest edge."
