Ezra

Cynthia checked Damon's pulse.

It was finally steady.

Ezra sat on the porch stairs, as he patted Cynthia's golden retriever. The night was quiet, there was only silent buzzing coming from fireflies swarming the field and the wind channeling through the chimes. A small fairy noticed the depressing aura coming from Ezra and flew down to sit on his shoulder.

Ezra wore a worn out expression, exhausted from healing Damon from his deep wounds. But more than anything he was reflecting about the situation that had played out. A forced smile appeared on Ezra's face when the comforting small hand patted Ezra's shoulder.

The sound of footsteps got closer and he turned around to see Cynthia at the front door wiping her bloodied hands on a wet cloth. Ezra abruptly stood up.

"How is he?"

"Your healing has helped the internal wounds. I cleaned up the rest, he'll just need to sleep and focus on self-healing. Give him three days at least."

"Can I see him?"

"Of course, dear."

The golden retriever perked its head up as it watched Ezra disappear into the house with the fairy still on his shoulder. Cynthia finished cleaning up her hands and sat where Ezra had been and cuddled her retriever.

A set of headlights appeared in the distance and Cynthia watched as it got closer. The police vehicle hastily parked on the side of the road and Laura jumped out of the car, followed by Lincoln and Iris. As soon as Cynthia's eyes met with Lincoln's the couple smiled warmly at each other.

"Where's Ezra?" Laura flew up the porch stairs, quickly scanning the area.

"Inside with Damon." Laura nodded before heading into the house.

Lincoln returned his gaze to the direction of the house, but jumped back when he met with a close up of a smiling Cynthia.

"Hello, dear."

Her graceful voice sounded like heaven to Lincoln's ear. He regained his composure and returned a loving smile.

"Hello, beautiful."

Cynthia wriggled her way into Lincoln's arm. The couple hugged as they reconnected their warmth against each other. Even though they were married, there were times where they wouldn't see each other for a of couple days due to Lincoln's work. But once they reunited they would act as though they were a newly wed couple even though they had been married for over 23 years.

"Can you guys stop acting so cuddly?" Iris frowned. Cynthia enjoyed teasing Iris so she grabbed onto her daughter and pulled her into a hug.

"How did you know they were in trouble?" Lincoln asked Cynthia.

"The fairies told me. They sensed a bad omen."

"How exactly did you scare them off?" Iris stared at her mother.

"The shotgun seems to be useful every now and then." Cynthia simply smiled.

Both Iris and Lincoln nodded slowly.

Meanwhile, Ezra sat on a chair next to the bedside with Damon's hand intertwined with his. He had his eyes closed, heightening his senses to feel through Damon's heartbeat and pain. Ezra could feel that Damon was sleeping uncomfortably as his body was tensed. He placed a hand over his forehead letting negative energy seep into him while replacing it with a warm sensation. The frown disappeared off of Damon's face and his body relaxed.
