The Calm Before the Storm

Cain

Cain was beyond pissed. 

His relationship with Ezra had just finally bloomed and he was ready to spend every moment with Ezra but everyone else seemed to think otherwise. The moment they had arrived home, the two were welcomed by a crowd of people.

Laura who was especially keen to return home to Ezra was eye balling Cain the moment they walked up the driveway. Ezra was glad to see Laura and Damon whilst Cain grumbled at the thought that he would not be having any alone time with Ezra. Shay and Tyler were assigned to keep watch the couple while Benno was forced along. 

Laura stood beside the door frame as she happily let everyone inside the house however, the moment Cain was just about to go inside, she slammed her hand in front of him to prevent him from going inside. 

Cain wasn't intimidated but he knew that he would have to be on his best behaviour especially in front of Laura. 

"I hope you didn't try anything while I was away." She glared. 

Cain put on his best professional smile. "No ma'am. I just kept watch over him."

"....Ezra is my only child. I want him to live his best life and not get tied down to some werewolves who only want to take advantage of him." 

"Ezra knows what's best for himself." 

"Of course. But as his mother it's only natural that I would be very protective over him. So I'll be straight and say that I don't approve of you."

"Yet. But I assure you that my feelings for him are not half hearted." 

"Don't push your luck." 

Cain thought about the fact that that he didn't even need to try anymore, Ezra was already his. He chose to stay quiet instead of saying something snarky since he didn't want to get on the bad side of Laura. He needed her approval more than anyone else. 

"Is there a problem?" Ezra cut in. 

Laura immediately moved her arm away from the door and onto Ezra's shoulder. "Just having a little chit chat." She guided him back into the house while leaving Cain at the door. 

Laura was going to be a lot harder to please than he thought. 

There was a whiff of a delicious meal as Damon and Laura unwrapped all the food that Eva had prepared for them to take home. Ezra, who was famished after the game gobbled down all the food while Cain felt satisfied just from watching him. Shay was about to bring up Ezra's goal back at the game to Laura but she received a kick from under the table from Tyler and Ezra. Laura's mood was too good for it to be ruined now. 

Later into the night, everyone began settling down to get ready for bed. Laura refused to let Cain and Ezra share a room and assigned Benno and Cain on the couches in the living room. The werewolves weren't too pleased as Damon got a whole guest room to himself but it's not like they had a choice. It was hinted to Cain that he would barely have anymore chances to be alone with the boy he loved. 

It was around midnight when everyone finally settled into bed. Although Tyler and Ezra were having a serious discussion about their situation, it wasn't too soon before Tyler fell asleep. All Ezra could hear was the sound of snoring and soft breathing throughout the house. Tyler was a heavy sleeper so he barely noticed the sound of Ezra opening his window and climbing out to sit on his roof.
