Slipping into Perdition
Brody and Lou raced towards the town
Brody asked, "What's the hurry?"
But Lou could only frown.
She feared how Buck was fairing
With Shamus not knowing
What he was daring.
Just on impulse
He killed three men
Didn't blink an eye
But then
He thought he had to
Because of me
She just didn't want
To once again
Put him in jeopardy.
She knew Buck didn't always
Think things through.
Brody slowed down
So she had to too.
"What's going on, Lou?"
"The longer Buck is in
Shamus company
The more likely he is
To end up in custody."
"I fear he'll do
Something foolish."
"Like what?" Brody smirked.
"Give Shamus a kiss?"
"No, I doubt that."
Then she wondered,
"Would he?"
It was a question she
Didn't want her
Brain to pick at.
"Can't we please just move along?"
"Yeah, Lou."
They picked up the pace.
But she could see something was wrong.
"Brody?"
He wouldn't let her see his face.
Shamus was right...
"Lou, he'd say
You're a loner
And that's okay.
Some people are just
Not cut out for more.
Even if love stared them
In the face
they would just
Shut the door."
"It what makes us the perfect pair.
All the fun without having to care
You and me are one in the same
We both know how to play the game."
Brody looked so forlorn
But he refused to scorn.
"BG is now is sight.
We'll take Shamus down
Without a fight.
You now have the proof you need.
He'll have no choice but to concede."
"You're not racing for the win
You're racing back to him
I hate this Lou you have to know
You're dealing me a fatal blow."
She knew it was not Shamus
that he meant
but Buck
that caused his discontent
"Brody? I don't know what to do."
"Yes, you do, Lou."
"I just wish if you decided to be brave
I was the one you wished to save.
When this is over, if you wish I'll go.
But I love you, Lou,
Always have, you hafta know."
Lou's head and heart felt confused
And more than little bruised.
There was just too much pain
Back to playing the game.
He watched as she shut down
As they entered town.
He could already feel the loss.
Yet hid his pain with a grin,
"Let got get him, Boss.
And your twin."
