You're preparing yourself for a run. You fix your hair and walk to Minho.
"Hey, you ready {your name}?" Minho asks while putting on his body armor.
"As ready as I'll ever be." You sigh. This will be your first run ever. There was a shortage of runners so they had asked you and this was your official start as a runner.
You walk through the open field and to the maze doors. You look up to the big grey concrete wall. You're so nervous, you've imagined the worst things that could happen which wasn't really smart of you.
You were deep in thoughts when someone tapped your shoulder.
"Hey {your name}. How are you holding up?" Thomas gives a little smile. He's been having a hard time too. Everyone has, so smiling brightly isn't something the gladers do very often.
"I don't know, I just, I don't even know if I'm going to do okay. What if I won't keep up with Minho? I have to make it back. I can't lose another one of you. Not again. Not like I lost Newt." you say this and you immediately get a lump in your throat.
A tear rolls down your face faster than you expected. Thomas walks to you and grabs you tightly. You hug him back and are listening to the steady rhythm of his breath. You start calming down and let go of him.
"Everything is gonna be okay {your name}. You got this." he wipes the tears of your face with his soft finger tips.
You hear a noise and the doors of the maze start to open. Minho isn't here yet but you can already see him coming.
"Come on, lets go." Minho says as he arrives. You walk behind him and turn around one more time.
You look at Thomas who's looking at you. His face is sad and he gives this little nod that you needed.
You turn around and start running.
