Vanz stopped Noctis in the hallway.
"Hey dude, I'm sorry for earlier. I know you were just sort of off the wall."
"It's okay. I just, I know it sounds weird but, I see all of these ribbons and pictures of her and you on horses when you were like 15. What happened?"
"You know, her mom died when we were 16. She was hit by a drunk driver. I think it'd be better if you read what happened."
Vanz walked into her and Leah's room and brought back leah's phone, unlocking it going to her messages and handing the phone to Noctis.
'Be safe, see you at the barn.' was the first message she sent to her mom.
'Love you, see you in a bit.' She replied.
'Hey mom, should I bring white breeches or tan?'
'Hellooo'
'I need to know before I go to the show.'
'Crap dad just called are you okay? stupid question but.... oh god mom I'll be at the hospital as soon as possible please be okay.'
'Please answer me, please just let me know this a nightmare.'
'Don't be gone.'
'You always told me funerals were depressing and damn you were right.'
'Christmas Eve just isn't the same.'
'Happy birthday momma, still haven't found the guy who did it.'
'I quit competing. The arena was yours and no one elses. It takes too much out of me to be there. Korbin misses you. I'll tell him you love him and maybe ride him for you.'
'Everything is changing, I wish you were here to see it all. I hope you and Korbin are happy now that you're together again.'
'It's been exactly a year, you said you'd see me in a bit... I'm still waiting.'
'I'm with Vanna and I need to get drunk which is ironic because A drunk is what destroyed you and all our lives.'
'Momma I can't do it anymore I want to die. I want to kill myself. But this time it's for real.'
Then came a response,
'The number you dialed has been changed, disconnected or is no longer in service. Please resend text message using a valid 10-digit number.'
"Oh my god. She was like me." Noctis said as he backed against the wall.
"She kept texting hoping that one day there would be a response."
Noctis slid down the wall and sat down. "So, I guess everyone does have a past."
"Ha, yeah. I guess mine just em wasn't as bad, I'm more of a healer than someone who needs healing."
Leah stepped around the corner and pat Noctis on the head, "The truth hurts."
"Oh my god I'm sorry."
