Dragged to Work

Leah sat down in the chair next to Noctis's bed and lay back her head, so much for being off work today.

I barely recognized Hannah. She is so mature. Of course she is married before I am. I'm not even engaged.

Then Hannah's words finally got to her head, Anderson moved to Texas after you left thinking that you would go there, I haven't heard from him in a few years though.

I need to apologize to him. But after seven years? Would it really matter anymore?

She sat thinking it over for several minutes before she heard a tired groan come from next to her, "So you're finally awake huh?"

"Yeah. Mostly anyway." Noctis said.

"Sorry about having to put you through that ridiculous surgery. I just couldn't risk it."

"It's fine. I just don't want to have to take god-awful pain medicine."

"Well that's what happens when you don't think. What I want to know is, how did you manage to break your leg?"

"When I jumped the wall, I landed on my skate sideways and I guess mixed with the force of me hitting the ice, it broke my leg."

"You took the pain a lot better than some of the people I've seen come in here."

"So, are you and Vanz paramedics or just ER doctors?"

Leah shrugged, "Vanz is a paramedic, she likes the action. I am both. I can be either a doctor or a first responder."

There was a knock on the door and the doctor walked into the room. He was bald on top and had gray hair on the side. He was old, experienced.

"Hello, Noctis, I am doctor Jeremy Strider. I see you have met Leah already."

"Well I hope he would know me, We've been together for almost a year." Leah said.

"Oh, I apologize, I had no idea." he gave an apologetic smile and sat down.

"Loosen up Jeremy I was joking." Leah said, "but we are dating."

"Well, you should be able to tell him everything then."

"Would you like me to?"

"No." He said, then turned his attention towards Noctis again,"Well, you will be in the splint for six weeks at the minimum, after that it should only be a few weeks to get full range of motion back in your leg. It should only take you about two and a half to three months to be back to normal. you shouldn't need any pain medicine for it, but if you do, I think Tylenol should work fine. The best thing to do is keep it elevated and not put any pressure on it."

"Thank you. I'll try my best." Noctis said.

The doctor left and Leah gave Noctis an exasperated look, "He's always so stiff."

"I can tell."

"So, can I trust you to keep a secret?" Leah asked twiddling her thumbs

"Of course." Noctis fidgeted to get his leg comfortable and leaned back against the pillow.

"Gabriel is planning on asking Vanz to marry him on her birthday next year."

"Really?" Noctis asked.

"Yeah." Leah said.

"What a loser, everyone knows you do it when a girl least expects it."

"Really? That's your tactic?"

"Yeah. Of course."

"You are such a dork." Leah said.
