A Nice Breeze

(Y/n) wasn't used to having a 'bedtime'. So, of course, she had a hard time falling asleep, no matter how comfy she was laying up in Jack's penthouse.

She sat up and looked over the sleeping bodies spread out on the floor. Across from (Y/n) was Jack cuddled up with Walnut (Who Jack refused to give up), and next to her laid Crutchie, his crutch resting in a spot next to him. His head rested on top of his cap, acting as somewhat of a pillow. With his cap off, (Y/n) could really see all of his features. She bend over and brushed some of his dirty blonde hair out of his face. He was quite handsome for a street rat.

'What a face..', She thought to herself, 'Wait...WHAT..'

Realizing what she had just done, (Y/n) stood up and backed away from the boy as he stirred in his sleep.

'What's wrong with me??'

(Y/n)'s face was bright red, but it was to dark for anyone to see if they saw her. Flustered, she walked over to the railing to think. Now, (Y/n) thought she was officially going crazy. I mean, she'd literally only met Crutchie earlier that day, all he did was like to some store owner about who she was, and to top it all off, she was still a child for God's sake! Well, a pre-teen maybe. She had just turned eleven a few months ago. Speaking of which, how old was Crutchie? Judging by his height, he couldn't be much older than her.

'Maybe...twelve? No no, Jack said he was twelve and he seems a bid older than Crutchie..'

(Y/n) was so lost in thought, she didn't hear Crutchie get up and hobble with his crutch over to where she stood.

"Lovely night ain't it?" He said, startling her.

"Oh! Y-yeah it's real pretty.." (Y/n) stuttered. There was know way she was gonna let Crutchie know she was thinking about hi-

"Hey Crutchie, I'se was thinking..."

'Dammit why did I say that!!!'

"About me?" Crutchie said curiously.

(Y/n) looked at him and blinked twice. The two where silent for a few seconds before Crutchie realized what he said and became flustered.

"N-NOT THAT I'SE ASSUMED YOU'SE WHERE THINKING OF ME AHA I'SE WAS JUST KID-" He said waving his hands frantically before (Y/n) cut him off.

"Don't worry Crutchie, um, actually I was thinking of you...I-I'se was wondering how old you'se where." (Y/n) assured him.

"Me? Oh I'se eleven I think...been' here since I'se was real little." Crutchie said thoughtfully. "Is dat really what kept ya from sleepin'?"

(Y/n) shrugged her shoulders."Donno. Guess I just didn't feel like sleepin'."

"Well," Crutchie began,"Tomarra's Sunday, so most newsies take tha day off. But if ya want, you'se can sell with me. Y'know, justa see how it's done and stuff."

(Y/n) nodded. Suddenly, she felt excited for tomorrow. She'd get to spend the day selling newspapers with Crutchie. Wait, Sunday? Sunday was the day she would occasionally get sweets from a nearby baker.

'I could take Crutchie there!!!'

"Aye (Y/n)," Crutchie paused. "Um, is it okay if I'se still call ya (Y/n)?"

(Y/n) chuckled. "Of course."

Crutchie smiled a big, goofy smile. "We'se should get to sleep soon if I'm gonna teach ya to sell papes."

"Yeah....but I wanna enjoy the nice breeze of Jack's penthouse~" (Y/n) said throwing her hands behind her head.

Crutchie laughed. 'My God his laugh is precious...'

Then, (Y/n) found herself staring at Crutchie. He closed his eyes and sighed. "It's nice, huh."

"Yeah.." (Y/n) replied in a hushed tone.

They stayed like that for a while, eyes closed and taking in the nice breeze.

"Alright," (Y/n) said, remembering her plan for the next day, "Let's get some sleep."

The two of them reluctantly returned to where they where previously both laid.

"G'night (Y/n)."

"Night Crutchie."

"Will you two shuddap already."

Little did they know that they had woken Jack mid-way in their conversation....
