it's been six months.

six months since the nhs discovered a supposed cancer cure that was set to change the world as we know it. they certainly got one thing right.

it passed every criteria until the doctors began testing it on healthy human beings. there weren't any symptoms at first, but then peoples' hands began trembling. then came the violent outbursts and finally the seizures.

within a week of the testing, nearly a thousand people from across the uk began seizing and died at almost the same time. doctors had no idea what happened until their bodies came back to life and began attacking anyone in sight.

there was just too many of them to keep under control.

eventually, one or two escaped from every hospital and bit whoever they could find. that's when the doctors found out you could also get infected via saliva entering the bloodstream.

one by one, people turned. bailey and mo were the first from ashdene ridge to be killed.

before word got out, they had been walking mischief when a random man sprinted towards bailey and took a hefty chunk out of his shoulder. both he and mo screamed loudly and alerted other infected in the area. it wasn't long before their screams were silenced.

ryan still remembers opening the door to a blood stained mischief. that night, news stations started reporting the 'virus' and the residents didn't need to be told to know what happened.

the reports also stated that the infected were rapidly spreading, they advised everyone to stay in their homes with the doors and windows locked, as well as keeping keeping quiet. their main warning was to just not draw attention to oneself.

mike and may li agreed to stay the night for the sake of the younger children and after a long phone call to her wife and kids, may li finally began to relax as much as she dared.

the very next day, schools had been shut and work places closed. unfortunately, the roads had been sealed off overnight so may li couldn't get back to her family. for the first time in a long while, mike was happy he didn't have a family in the way she did.

he had the dumping ground kids and was happy he could be here with them.

it was obvious they were as well. especially the younger ones who had immediately crowded around the care workers with fear they were trying to hide.

another day had passed before the electricity and any power was cut out. mike had been smart and already cooked any food in the fridge so the tinned things weren't wasted but it was obvious to ryan that the care worker was beginning to panic.
