"ryan!" may li called him over from her seat in the office. the boy wandered inside and pulled the door ajar behind him as she spoke, "do you want to do anything for your birthday this year?"
ryan snorted and shook his head, "is my answer from the last three years not enough?"
may li sighed and shrugged slightly, "i know, i just wanted to be sure."
seeing that was all the care worker wanted, ryan turned around and walked out, "thanks anyway,"
birthdays just weren't ryan's thing. they were too noisy and he didn't always enjoy people's eyes on him, only when he'd done something worthy of it.
he didn't think his life was worth that much attention.
not to mention, his birthday was the day he went into care and laces tore up his sister's card. or the time his dad forced him to... 'tend' to three different customers because his supposed father was short on money.
(but he'll push those thoughts to the back of his mind again. no one needed to know, he was fine.)
birthdays just held so many bad memories and feelings for him. he never wanted to celebrate when his mood was so low.
feeling despondent from all the negative thoughts, ryan decided on getting a glass of water. he wandered into the kitchen and was rather relieved to discover it was empty. well, almost empty.
floss was scavenging for god knows what so ryan avoided her and reached to grab a glass from the cupboard.
he heard a 'harrumph' from behind him and smirked to himself. that is, until a hand tapped him on the shoulder.
"ryan, can you grab the biscuit tin from the top of the cupboards, please?" floss asked, dragging out the 'please' in an annoying manner. ryan groaned but reached to get it nonetheless, causing the girl to crack a grin.
when ryan grazed the very top, floss suddenly gasped loudly.
"since when have you had a tattoo!" she exclaimed as she rushed towards ryan. the boy turned around in a haste and quickly pulled down his shirt which had ridden up slightly.
"keep your mouth shut floss, yeah?" he warned but it fell on deaf ears. floss turned around and skipped into the living room, chanting 'ryan's got a tattoo' loudly.
ryan ran after her and put his hand over her mouth but it was far too late. his actions only confirmed what floss said was true and the few residents in the room shot up.
"wait, seriously! you're only turning fifteen tomorrow, how've you already got one?" sasha asked in astonishment. ryan crossed his arms, seeing no reason to cover floss' mouth anymore however he glared at her angrily.
"i just do, yeah? lay off," he snapped before trying to walk into the kitchen. the residents that were in the living room weren't accepting that as a proper answer.
"oh, you just happened to wake up with one? yeah, no chance." jody scoffed, her and the others following him into the kitchen.
"you must've done it for a reason. i know some dodgey places that'll ink kids if they want it," alex piped up.
"of course you would," ryan quipped, taking out his anger (fear) on the shorter boy.
"going off topic here guys," tyler stated.
