warnings - there's no actual warnings, it's just kinda weird. idk where my mind got this from but i'm okay w/ it—————
"if you were an animal, what do you think you'd be?"
"floss, why on earth do you need to know this?"
"school project. c'mon sash, just give me an answer and i'll be on my way."
"fine, uh... an octopus? candi told me that once. do you need a reason?"
"yeah, but how hard can it be? technically i only need to ask you the animal and i can make something up later. i just need answers from the rest of the house now."
"good luck getting one out of ryan. he'll bite your head off if you even try asking that."
"he's not that bad, sash, he's just a bit moody. besides, i already have one for ryan."
"oh yeah? and what's that?"
"a fox."

a fox, huh?
a smirk pulls taunt on the boy's features, such an arrogant expression for a young boy of fourteen. maybe the comparison is not as far off as he may think.
they are predators after all, are they not? perhaps not at first glance to the unsuspecting prey, such as the crow who falls for his charm and flattery. she is captivated by his sweet nothings; his compliments that drizzle off of his tongue like fresh honey.
it is not long before he takes what he has been waiting for.
right from under her gaze, he snatches away a piece of cheese that dropped from her mouth merely seconds before. it is only then that she understands. this fox, this cunning fox, he cares for no creature until it benefits him.
if ryan truly thought about the comparison and its ugly connotations, perhaps it would dash away his aloof smirk, if only for a second. but he does not.
and so he strolls away from the wall that conceals his presence, taking the knowledge in his stride as he enters the kitchen. they all stare at him, but he tells himself he does not care.
it takes only a second for their hushed murmurs to become the usual chatter, but by this point ryan loses interest.
"i can't believe prom is cancelled!" the pink clad girl storms into the kitchen with a frown adorning her youthful features. it is out of place on someone so kind hearted.
"i know! who's bright idea was to get rid of it anyway?" jody asks, her eyes searching the room as if it could provide all of the answers.
the murmurs start once again and begin increasing in volume until ryan cuts in.
"didn't mike say something about cancelling?" he queries nonchalantly, the lies rolling off of his tongue like they did his mind merely seconds ago. his eyes light up when he notices a flicker of something dart across their eyes.
soon, it is just him and an empty plate. the sound of their combined anger resonates throughout the walls.
he smiles. their arrogant natures always seem to get the better of them and yet, when the truth is eventually revealed, they wonder why they did not reveal his lies sooner.
after all, you can never trust a fox.
