a jyler drabble for @stinky123456788 : )

people have different ways of saying i love you.

for some, it's the little things. maybe bringing their loved one breakfast in bed or helping them clean up a mess without being asked.

for others, grand gestures are the way to go. planning the perfect day filled with all their favourite activities to show how much they care. or maybe finding the perfect gift to spring on their loved one.

but jody has a rather interesting way of showing her affections.

insults. more specifically, telling someone 'you're an idiot' from wherever she is in the room. it seems like a rather unconventional way to express a warm emotion but it's not the words that she uses.

it's the way her eyes crinkle when she smiles, a cheeky grin that lets you know she doesn't really mean it. and the light that fills her eyes with emotion hidden behind their glass walls.

tyler thinks she's already beautiful, but that fucking smile sends his heart off in a flurry. that's why, every so often, he'll do something ridiculous on purpose. not anything that will affect anyone; a little comment or quirky plan. just enough to warrant an affectionate shove.

and enough for her to let loose slightly, so he can be gifted with the prettiest sight he's ever seen.

sighing to himself, tyler put on his light up shoes and made his way downstairs. they were a birthday present form his mum and he was determined to make good use of them.

he entered the kitchen with a smile and made himself a bowl of cereal. taking a seat beside ryan and jody, he listened to the conversation at hand.

"if there was a zombie apocalypse then you just grab any non perishable food you can and find a good shelter," ryan commented.

"yeah, but what about at night?" alex said from opposite him, "there'd be no light so you'd basically be a sitting duck."

tyler suddenly had an idea and dramatically stood from the table,

"guys, i've got this," he announced. taking a few steps back from the table, he waited until everyone (jody) was watching before stomping his feet a few times. a small, flashing green light emitted from the two shoes and he watched with a grin as ryan face palmed.

jody met tyler's gaze and made his stomach twist with butterflies. the light in her eyes told him exactly what was coming next. still, he went back to his seat when she spoke up,

"you're an idiot," she told him with a smile. tyler's grin brightened at the endearment and he threw an arm across her shoulders as he sat down,

"yeah, but i'm your idiot."
