warnings - swearing; not really boyxboy but yeah; panic attack/breakdown

—————

how could he be so stupid?

he lost his little sister in a shop of all places. hell, she'd actually ran away from him and now he was pacing in the office.

ryan's heartbeat was going a mile a minute as the panic increased. mike was on the phone, trying to sort the mess out and occasionally asking ryan questions about what happened.

a few minutes later, he, mike and may li were exiting the office when chloe wheeled around the corner. she began talking about how much fun she had when three stern gazes settled on her. the four of them went to the quiet room for a chat and a hopefully acceptable explanation from chloe.

after a snide comment or two, ryan was sent out of their little meeting. grumbling to himself, the boy entered the kitchen in search for something to eat. he was happily minding his own business when chloe wheeled in beside him and gained his attention rather rudely.

"what?" he snapped, admittedly still bitter about her wandering off with a complete stranger.

"because of you, i'm not allowed to meet candi - rose tomorrow," she frowned at him. ryan pondered on the name for a moment before realisation struck him,

"the pink weirdo you ran off with? huh, if anything you should be thanking me," he grumbled, mostly to himself but chloe caught on nonetheless.

"she's not weird. she's my friend." chloe stated loudly, catching the attention of a few residents in the lounge. they slowly filtered into the room as the pair continued their argument.

"you don't even know her," ryan commented, making chloe grip her wheelchair tighter.

"i barely know you," she countered, making ryan flinch slightly but she didn't see it, "speaking of which, why are we even having this conversation? can't you be happy that i made a friend?"

"i'm just trying to protect you! it's what family does, chloe," ryan exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air in exasperation. chloe scoffed and retaliated angrily,

"since when have you cared about me? you have never done anything to help me. and the few times you have, it's only 'cause it benefitted you,"

ryan felt the air leave his lungs at her accusation. all of a sudden, memories came flooding back to him. memories and flashbacks of things he didn't want to remember; it was like a dam of forgotten emotions burst from the depths of his mind.

"you don't know shit, chloe." his voice cracked halfway through the rage - filled sentence, exposing his true feelings.

"ryan," mike scolded, suddenly snapping out of a daze. he turned to the two siblings, "both of you, rooms. now." he ordered.

chloe groaned and wheeled off, purposely barging into ryan on the way. the boy wasn't phased by the slight pain it caused, he was more focused on the fact his hands just couldn't stop trembling.

tears were pooling in his eyes and he couldn't stop them from falling. the residents all shared looks of confusion and blatant shock - they'd never seen him cry before.

even mike was unsure what to do. he hesitantly reached out a hand and placed it on the boy's shoulder but the action did more harm than good.

ryan startled and jumped back, seemingly lost in his own mind. he reached out his own hand and held onto the shoulder mike had touched. his breathing became fast and shaky as he backed away from the care worker.
